Chef Sujan Sarkar is bringing his Michelin-Starred Indian tasting menu concept, Indienne , to New York This Spring. We are looking for committed Front of House professionals looking to join our opening team as we bring his vision to life.


The Maitre D' position at Indienne New York is an hourly service role that works closely with the management team and all other front-of-house and back-of-house team members. Maitre d's are responsible for managing reservations, pacing the dining room, and serving as a non-managerial leadership position among our door team. Taking guest notes, identifying guest demographic information, documenting dietary concerns, allergies, restrictions, and acknowledging occasions all flow through the door team from the Maitre d' to the hosts, and floor staff to follow.

This staff member coordinates with managers to conduct training of door staff and keeps them up to date of all relevant information regarding menu changes, service changes, and pacing of the dining room. The primary focus outside of service hours is maintaining our guest database and captain notes in order to create and maintain a professional environment with as much situational awareness as possible from guest arrival to departure.


Our opening team will be tight, and the the goals of the program are significant. You will be part of building systems rather than just executing them as a 'hired gun.' Experience with Resy, Tock, and SevenRooms is highly appreciated.

Essential Duties

• Greet all guests entering the restaurant and thank all guests leaving the restaurant
• Manage reservation systems
• Ensure reservations are prioritized and seated in a timely manner
• Strive to accommodate walk-in guests whenever possible
• Clearly and politely communicate with guests when delays and/or waits occur
• Maintain an organized floor by quickly and efficiently seating guests according to company standards
• Understand and operate the reservation/seating system
• Maintain professional and warm guest communications - inside the restaurant or via phone/email
• Recognize key people in the industry, VIP guests and contacts related to the company and follow company protocol related to their visit
• Communicate respectfully and clearly with service team and management
• Support team members in the completion of their duties to ensure satisfaction of all guests before, during, and after service
• Engage management for any guest issue or complaint
• Maintain cleanliness and organization at the host stand and front door area
• Additional service and/or operational tasks as determined by manager
• Adhere to grooming and dress code standards
• Assist teammates to anticipate all other FOH needs
• Other General Maintenance and food service tasks as Assigned

Skills and Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of lead host or Maitre d' Experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must possess exceptional work ethic, strong sense of hospitality, and a collaborative attitude
• Ability to work in an organized and professional manner
• Able to work in a standing/walking position for long periods of time
• Ability to demonstrate quick thinking and adaptability in a constantly changing environment
• Receptive to constructive criticism and performance feedback

The physical demands for this position are seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, sitting, standing, for 5 to 10 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodations.
