Anti-Violence Services Advocate
In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV)
Albany, NY | Full-Time | On-Site
Reports to: Director of Anti-Violence Services
Who We Are
In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) is a movement—not just an organization. We exist to uplift, protect, and empower LGBTQ+ people of color through bold advocacy, direct services, and leadership development. We show up where systems have failed our communities and build what’s needed for us to survive and thrive.
Our Anti-Violence Services (AVS) program is rooted in liberation, healing, and justice. We provide survivor-centered, culturally responsive support to LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and all forms of interpersonal and systemic violence—while actively working to dismantle the conditions that make that violence possible.
Position Summary
The Anti-Violence Services Advocate is a frontline role grounded in compassion, urgency, and accountability to the community. This position provides trauma-informed crisis response, advocacy, and resource navigation for LGBTQ+ survivors—centering Black, Brown, Trans, and historically marginalized voices.
This is more than direct service. This is about standing in the gap, challenging systems, and walking alongside survivors on their journey toward safety, healing, and self-determination.
What You’ll Do
Crisis Response & Direct Support
Provide immediate, trauma-informed support to survivors in crisis through hotline calls, walk-ins, and emergency response
Conduct safety planning and crisis intervention rooted in dignity and respect
Support access to emergency shelter, transitional housing, and long-term housing stability
Accompany survivors to court, hospitals, and interactions with law enforcement, ensuring they are never alone in critical moments
Advocacy & Resource Navigation
Connect survivors to culturally competent legal, medical, mental health, and financial resources
Support survivors in defining and achieving their goals on their own terms
Advocate through a lens of racial, gender, and economic justice
Program Coordination & Documentation
Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely case records
Enter data in alignment with funder and compliance requirements
Support program reporting, outcomes tracking, and continuous improvement
Training, Outreach & Community Engagement
Facilitate support groups, healing spaces, and community-based workshops
Provide LGBTQ+ cultural competency trainings to external partners and systems
Engage in coalitions and community efforts to end gender-based violence
Collaboration & Mission Alignment
Work across IOOV programs to ensure survivors receive holistic, wraparound care
Uphold IOOV’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and unapologetic advocacy
What You Bring
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or related field, or equivalent lived and professional experience
At least 1–2 years of experience in advocacy, crisis response, or case management
Experience supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, or related violence
Knowledge of housing systems, safety planning, and community resources
Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred
Bilingual Spanish/English
Experience facilitating groups, workshops, or community trainings
Familiarity with trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and LGBTQ+ affirming practices
Why IOOV
At IOOV, you are not just taking a job—you are stepping into purpose.
You will:
Make a real impact in the lives of LGBTQ+ survivors every single day
Grow your leadership in advocacy, crisis response, and systems change
Be part of a bold, unapologetic team committed to justice, equity, and liberation
