Broadcast & AV Systems Engineer

Job Overview
Media2 is hiring a freelance Broadcast & AV Systems Engineer to support our scaling operations in live Sports & Entertainment Events. This ideal applicant will be experienced in broadcast or audio-video systems, including control rooms, TV truck docks, broadcast booths and other IT related environments. Candidates will have worked at a Utility, Assistant Engineer, or Engineer level. The candidate should have excellent project-management skills, working knowledge of A/V equipment, and be willing to learn both software and hardware applications. This person will be assigned to shifts at one primary venue, and may include shifts at other local venues in Long Island and Westchester. Candidate must be available for non-standard working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays according to event needs.

Responsibilities

• As scheduled, work on-site with our clients to support their broadcast, AV, scoreboard, and technology needs.
• Assist with technical faxing, maintenance, repair, and operation of all systems - including but not limited to broadcast truck integrations, control room equipment, camera department, venue displays and technology.
• Manage rack room organization, cabling and clean-up, mapping pathways, routing, technical documentation, and other duties as required to ensure seamless transmission and communication.
• Have knowledge of Daktronics, Ross and Evertz systems, as well as IPTV technology.
• Coordinate and collaborate with points of contact such as venue EIC, union technicians, visiting broadcasters, and corporate AV/special events leads.
• Identify and troubleshoot problems, offering solutions where possible.

Qualifications

• Higher education in audio-video, electrical, or IT engineering.
• Able to analyze problems, identify solutions, and follow-through on steps to resolve or address problems.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working in production, ideally with a technical focus at a control room, production studio, events venue, production company, or other comparable employment.
• Proficiency or minimum working knowledge of live television equipment, including cameras, switchers, replay and video servers, graphics systems, routing systems, intercom, signal test measurement, broadcast cabling, audio systems, audio mix and operation, fiber and copper cable maintenance, testing, repair and termination, including SMPTE hybrid fiber, as well as computer hardware, software and IP/LAN networking technologies. Experience with the SMPTE-2110 broadcast IP format a major plus.
• Able to communicate highly technical situations in a professional, straight-forward manner.
