About Beth El Day Camp

For over 60 years, Beth El Day Camp has provided a joyful, values-driven summer experience for approximately 220–250 campers in a safe and nurturing Jewish environment. Serving children ages 2–12, our camp offers a rich mix of activities including aquatics, sports, music, art, karate, and STEM - designed to support each child’s physical, social, and emotional growth.

As part of Beth El Synagogue Center, a large, multi-generational, egalitarian congregation, the camp is a central and vibrant expression of our community’s life and values.

Position Overview

Beth El Day Camp is seeking a visionary, creative, and strategic Camp Director to lead and continue to grow our well-established program. This is an opportunity for a dynamic leader to shape the future of a beloved camp - building on a strong foundation while bringing fresh ideas, energy, and innovation.

The Camp Director is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and success of the camp, including program design, staff leadership, family engagement, enrollment growth, and operational excellence. This role extends beyond the summer months, requiring year-round strategic planning, recruitment, and community building.

The Camp Director is part of a dynamic team of Jewish professionals who work closely together at Beth El Synagogue Center.

Key Responsibilities

Vision, Strategy & Growth

  • Set a compelling vision for the camp’s future, aligned with the mission and values of Beth El
  • Identify opportunities for program growth, innovation, and expanded enrollment
  • Lead marketing, outreach, and recruitment efforts to attract and retain campers and staff
  • Develop and pursue grant opportunities and other funding sources to enhance and expand programming

Program Leadership & Creativity

  • Design and oversee a high-quality, engaging, and creative camp program
  • Ensure meaningful integration of Jewish values, culture, and community throughout the camp experience
  • Continuously evaluate and evolve programming to meet the needs of campers and families

Staff Leadership & Culture

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a high-performing staff team
  • Directly manage Assistant Camp Director, division leaders and specialists
  • Cultivate a positive, collaborative staff culture rooted in mentorship, accountability, and growth

Operations & Excellence

  • Oversee all day-to-day camp operations, ensuring a safe, organized, and joyful environment
  • Maintain compliance with all safety regulations, including the Westchester Department of Health and the American Camp Association standards and local licensing requirements
  • Partner with facilities and operations staff to ensure smooth execution of all logistics

Family & Community Engagement

  • Serve as the face of the camp and primary relationship-builder with families
  • Communicate consistently and effectively with parents and caregivers
  • Strengthen connections between the camp and the broader synagogue community

Administration & Systems

  • Oversee enrollment, staffing, and budgeting processes
  • Utilize and manage CampMinder for registration, communication, and data tracking
  • Ensure strong systems for organization, communication, and operational efficiency

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Significant leadership experience in camp, youth programming, and/or experiential education
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically while executing at a high level
  • Experience with recruitment, enrollment growth, and program development
  • Experience writing grants or securing funding is strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency with CampMinder (or similar systems), Google Suite, and Microsoft Office
  • A sense of humor, flexibility, and a genuine passion for building joyful, meaningful experiences for children

Compensation

Salary range: $90,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
