Fleet Mechanic

Department: Fleet FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Heavy Duty Mechanics at Livingston Development Ventures carry out routine maintenance on the vehicles and heavy construction equipment of our clients following industry established guidelines.

HOURS: 6:30 AM- 4:30 AM

REPORTS TO: Director of Fleet Services

COMPENSATION: $32-37/hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Hands-on experience with construction machinery, off-road vehicles, and job-site support equipment.
  • Maintain service records and repair documentation
  • Preform preventative maintenance including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and system checks.
  • Attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Repair or replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps and breaking systems.
  • Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper operation
  • Provide records of all work performed to Director of Fleet Services
  • Full time, year round position with overtime
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Exposure to weather conditions, noise, grease and heavy lifting.
  • May require overtime, weekends or emergency repairs.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License in good standing required. Commercial Driver’s License a plus
  • Minimum 2 years experience or schooling through BOCES or similar educational certifications.
  • NYS Inspector License a plus

  • Ability to use various computer software programs once trained in proper use
  • Ability to work under minimal direction.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to frequent change of priority.
  • Must be able to take initiative to solve problems within established guidelines
  • Must be flexible in changes to schedule, average of 55 - hour work week
  • Must be qualified to operate a company vehicle
  • Must have own tools
  • Knowledge of the Rochester area a plus

The employee must regularly lift and/or 80-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a wide variety of worksite and climate conditions, including constant exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, and smoke.

The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to loud.
