Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
Physician Assistant (PA) and a Nurse Practitioner Job Description:
Working in a general practitioner's office is a licensed clinician who practices medicine collaboratively with a supervising physician. Their training is based on the medical model, which focuses on diagnosing and treating the disease.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient assessment: Take comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations for patients across the lifespan.
- Diagnosis and treatment: Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, such as infections, injuries, and conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure.
- Treatment plans: Develop and manage patient treatment plans, often in consultation with the supervising physician.
- Diagnostic tests: Order and interpret laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic studies.
- Prescribe medication: Prescribe medications and other therapies.
- Patient education: Counsel patients on preventive care, diet, hygiene, and other health-related topics.
- Procedures: Perform common office procedures like suturing, casting, and splinting.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other members of the healthcare team, including nurses and specialists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
