Banquet Captain

SECOND is looking for a talented Bar Captain to join its team of seasoned professionals, as we embark on our busiest year ever! Featuring exposed brick walls, open-air terrace, and state of the art amenities, SECOND caters to the top creators and social clients for all types of events. With a bespoke menu created by celebrated chef, Laurent Tourondel, SECOND is one of the leading major event spaces in New York.

Service Expectations

• Prepare carts, including coffee and specialty drink carts. Set all bars with non-alcoholic beverages, alcohol and glassware according to the bar package listed on the BEO
• Have a deep knowledge of all classic cocktails and specialty cocktails and wine selected by the client
• Knowledge of prebatching accurately according to the guest size and specialty cocktails
• Delegate accordingly to staff ensuring everyone is on task and always working
• Answer questions on menu selections
• Communicate with the director regarding menu questions, staff and patron issues
• Follow cycle time guidelines for all meals for table side beverage service
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas throughout the day. Inspect the bar for cleanliness before post-shift
• Inspect the cleanliness and presentation of all glassware, and bottles before the event
• Communicate with guests and other employees and ensure staff are working together as a team to ensure optimum service
• Assist management in training, motivating, and coaching employees; and serve as a role model

• Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.

General

• Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Assist with moving, lifting, carrying, and placing of objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds.
• Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire work shift.
• Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e. g., small print).
• Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
• Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces and steps.
• Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps.
• Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
• Speak with others using clear and professional language.
• Listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.

PREREQUISITES

Education:

• College graduate desired or equivalent. Must be age 21 or older.

Experience:

• A Minimum of 5 years working in the food service industry, ideally as a captain or service manager.
• At least 2 years experience in a management position preferred.
• Well versed with POS systems.
• A strong service background.
• Be able to lead by example and have a can-do attitude.
