The LSE Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization* based in New York, invites applications for a senior, strategic leader with significant experience in alumni engagement for the role of North America Alumni Engagement Director to drive alumni engagement across North America. This influential role will champion alumni interests, deepen relationships with key volunteers and partners, and deliver a dynamic programme of activity that supports LSE’s global engagement and philanthropic goals. Leading the North America alumni engagement team, and overseeing alumni engagement activity in Latin America, this role will represent the School at a senior level and ensure the effective functioning of the LSE Foundation Office in New York, including line management of one member of staff.

North American Alumni Engagement Director

Salary range from $100,000 - $110,000 per year

Minimum requirements

Leadership and Management

  • Deliver a comprehensive alumni engagement program in line with the LSE Alumni Engagement strategy.
  • Line-manage senior engagement staff
  • Agree KPIs with senior LSE leaders and monitor performance against targets.
  • Represent LSE in North America; contribute to committees, boards and senior-level networks.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the LSE Foundation Office, maintaining alignment with LSE policies and standards.
  • Build strong working relationships with UK-based colleagues to support cohesive global engagement.

Volunteer and Advocacy Development

  • Manage relationships with senior and influential alumni volunteers in North America
  • Oversee design and delivery of volunteer and advocacy programmes across North America.
  • Work closely with colleagues in student recruitment, careers, and entrepreneurship to maximise alumni impact.
  • Liaise with partners such as the British Council and UK universities to strengthen community engagement.

Engagement Activity

  • Lead a vibrant programme of events, communications, and volunteer engagement tailored to North American alumni.
  • Support senior LSE staff travel in the region, identifying opportunities for increased engagement and giving.

Regular Giving

  • Collaborate with the Head of Regular Giving to integrate philanthropic goals into alumni activity.
  • Represent LSE on the American Fund for LSE Board.

Committee Liaison

  • Manage strategic relationships with AFLSE and CFLSE leadership teams.

Additional Requirements

  • Oversee the North America engagement budget.
  • Work evenings/weekends as required.
  • Travel across the US, Canada, and to London (1–2x per year).

Required Qualifications

  • Educated to a Degree level
  • Significant experience leading alumni engagement, stakeholder management, or volunteer‑focused portfolios in a fundraising or higher‑education environment.
  • Experience working with senior volunteers, donors, advocates, and VIPs, with strong understanding of their needs and motivations.
  • A proven track record of managing complex, multi‑stakeholder projects and delivering results in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience influencing and collaborating across large, complex organisations.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high‑quality reports, letters and engagement materials.
  • Strong leadership experience, including motivating teams and ensuring delivery against KPIs.
  • Excellent relationship‑building, negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills, with a diplomatic and professional approach.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail, including confident use of CRM systems
  • Flexibility to work evenings/weekends and to travel across North America and to the UK as required.

Additional Information

  • The role is hybrid, with 40% of work from LSE Foundation’s Hudson’s Yard-based office. Further programmatic work within North America is required; travel within the region and occasional travel to the UK is expected.
