Bar Heretic is a neighborhood bakery/café and wine bar in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. We specialize in natural and organic wines, seasonal bar snacks, and naturally leavened breads and baked goods
JOB OVERVIEW
At Bar Heretic, a Baker is responsible for producing bread and other baked goods in accordance with our recipes. Reports to the Kitchen Operations Manager.
- Prepares bread, focaccia, rolls and other baked goods
- Follows proper proofing and baking techniques for each variety of bread
- Maintains a clean and sanitary food production area according to Department of Health standards
- Works towards mastering all shifts and production processes
- Assists FOH café team in counter setup if needed and engages with guests interested in learning about our products
- Performs other duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of experience in a baker preparation position
- Basic math and measuring skills
- Strong work ethic, communication and time management skills
- Post-secondary culinary program highly preferred
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Availability to work onsite with an open, flexible schedule often including early mornings and weekends
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours, including standing, walking, bending and squatting
- Ability to work with a deck oven, electric convection oven and commercial spiral mixer
- Food Handler’s License preferred
