About University at Albany:

Established in 1844 and designated a University Center of the State University of New York in 1962, the University at Albany's broad mission of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service engages a diverse student body of approximately 17,000 students in nine schools and colleges across three campuses.

Located in Albany, New York, New York State's capital, the University is convenient to Boston, New York City and the Adirondacks.

Job Description:

The School of Social Welfare (SSW) in the College of Integrated Health Sciences at the University at Albany, State University of New York invites applications for one Associate or Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position beginning Fall 2026. SSW seeks colleagues who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to developing and maintaining a vigorous research program in their area of interest, teaching undergraduate, MSW and Ph.D. courses across modalities (in-person, hybrid, synchronous, asynchronous), and engaging in university and professional service appropriate to rank. The successful candidate should provide evidence of commitment to or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds. There is a strong interest in attracting candidates with the qualifications and experience to contribute to the teaching of advanced clinical practice courses.

Teaching: Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellent teaching abilities as evidenced by teaching evaluations and the development and delivery of course materials. Because this is a professional school, teachers prepare students for professional practice through the teaching of the profession's knowledge, skills, values, and cognitive and affective processes. Academic advising and mentoring are important components of the teaching portfolio. The courseload for faculty in the School of Social Welfare is 2 courses per semester. Faculty should be able to teach across all programs [undergraduate and graduate (MSW and Ph.D.)] Teaching includes weekly office hours, syllabi development and revision, development and maintenance of courses in the learning management system (Brightspace), and ongoing professional development in teaching and learning.

Research: Candidates are expected to undertake research, theoretical and/or empirical, and to disseminate that work in appropriate venues (i.e., publications in peer-reviewed journals, scientific and technical reports, and local, state, national, and international conferences). Engaged scholarship may be evidenced in the candidate's research, teaching, or service work. Engaged scholarship entails scholarly outputs that can be directly applied to social problems and issues faced by individuals, local communities, organizations, practitioners, and policymakers; its products will be considered alongside traditional, discovery-based research, engaged teaching, and/or service-oriented scholarly activities.

Service: Candidates are expected to provide service to the school, the university, the community, and/or the profession in support of the missions of the University, the College of Integrated Health Sciences, the School of Social Welfare, and the profession of social work writ large. Level of service is dependent on tenure track rank.
