Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Music

The Music Mission team owns Spotify’s end to end proposition for music creators and the experiences they create for fans. The team is dedicated to building tools and services to enable creation, promotion, expression, and monetization at scale.
The DISCO team is focused on building promotional tools that help artists reach more fans. Our products are used at scale -- over 1,000,000 active artists in Spotify for Artists and more than 380,000,000 listeners.
As the Staff Machine Learning Engineer for the DISCO Product Area, you will work with a cross-functional team to define and execute the Machine Learning technical strategy for the product area while working closely with a team of Engineering Managers, Staff and Senior Staff Engineers, who, with a team of dedicated engineers, will build on the momentum of Discovery Mode to enable artists and their teams to find new listeners when it matters most. Since launching in late 2020, Discovery Mode has quickly become an essential marketing tool for the music industry. This is a high-profile and strategic area for the company that will help artists grow their audiences and help grow Spotify’s core business.
\n What You'll Do- Contribute to defining the Machine Learning Engineering Strategy for Discovery Mode and its royalty programs
- Contribute to designing, building, evaluating, shipping, and refining Discovery Mode and royalty programs by hands-on ML development.
- Collaborate with a cross functional agile team spanning user research, design, data science, product management, and engineering to build new product features that advance our mission to connect artists and fans.
- Prototype new approaches and production-ize solutions for Spotify For Artists customers
- Help drive optimization, testing, and tooling to improve quality.
- Be part of an active group of machine learning practitioners in New York (and across Spotify) collaborating with one another.
- Work closely with Music Mission Tech Research and Personalization teams to ideate and innovate on Music Promotion Tools
- You have a strong background in machine learning, with experience and expertise in machine learning algorithms.
- You have hands-on experience implementing production machine learning systems at scale in Java, Scala, Python, or similar languages.
- You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and disciplined experimentation
- You enjoy leading projects from start to finish working closely with your team and peers. You are comfortable dealing with ambiguity on high impact projects
- Be accountable to senior tech leadership for meeting our product and technology objectives and managing expectations if those are at risk

- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North America region as long as we have a work location.
- This team operates within the Eastern time zone for collaboration.
The United States base range for this position is $215,000 - $307,000 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance. These ranges may be modified in the future.
