Position Summary: Orchard Park High School (1306 students) leadership duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications:

  • Valid NYS Certification - School Building Leader Certification (SBL or SAS).
  • No less than five (5) years' experience in an educational setting (secondary preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff & parents.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and written communication skills that foster relationships with teachers, staff and parents.
  • Instructional leadership with expertise in developmentally appropriate, highly innovative instruction, for high school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement curricula.
  • Embodiment of a lifelong learner with a mindset for growth who supports the professional learning community within the school.
  • Goal-oriented educational leader who collaboratively creates a vision for continued growth and success.
  • Maintains high visibility in the school and district.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job Goal

The Principal will implement the programs of the District - planning, implementing and evaluating efforts to improve the educational outcomes for students. The Principal's efforts will focus on achievement of educational excellence and total quality of programs for all learners, while fostering a safe and collaborative culture for all stakeholders.

Performance Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development, Supervision and Evaluation

  • The High School Principal shall be responsible for and supervise the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs and curriculum content through a participative system involving the assistant superintendents, the instructional leaders (ILs), teachers and any others who may be able to help improve the system;
  • Develop a climate for participative involvement of staff in curriculum analysis on a regularly scheduled basis that utilizes measurement towards goals as a foundation;
  • Provide opportunities and encouragement for staff to increase program expertise. He/she shall collaborate with staff on the use of their professional growth to develop curricula with high rigor and relevance to increase student achievement;
  • The High School Principal shall be available, willing, and interested in assisting the teachers to improve their pedagogy in the classroom;
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations, for all students and staff, on academic performance and behavior through an atmosphere of efficiency, cooperation, stimulation, recognition and service in which the school program can operate most effectively;
  • Evaluate lesson plans and observe classes/teachers on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.

Student Assessment and Monitoring

  • Establish and sustain systems for student voice and participation, ensuring students meaningfully contribute to school improvement, instructional design, and the overall learning experience;
  • Use multiple sources of data—including student feedback, academic performance, and social-emotional indicators—to inform decision-making and improve outcomes for all students;
  • Engage student representatives in ongoing dialogue to inform school priorities, strengthen school culture, and support the development of a shared vision for teaching and learning;
  • Implement and monitor structures aligned to data-informed practices to ensure timely, targeted support for students across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains;
  • Analyze student performance data, including subgroup outcomes, to identify trends, address gaps, and ensure equitable access to high-quality learning experiences;
  • Foster a student-centered environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of all learners, ensuring every student is known, supported, and challenged.

School Family and Community Engagement

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative school culture where students, staff, and families feel valued, respected, and connected to the school community;
  • Maintain a visible, accessible leadership presence, actively listening and responding to the needs and concerns of students, staff, and community members with transparency and clarity;
  • Build and sustain strong partnerships with families, parent organizations, and community stakeholders to support student success and continuous school improvement;
  • Engage regularly with students, staff, and community members to gather feedback and ensure that diverse perspectives inform decision-making and school priorities;
  • Represent the school and district at community events, professional organizations, and school-sponsored activities, demonstrating a strong commitment to student achievement and school pride;
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with all stakeholders through multiple channels, ensuring timely, clear, and accessible information sharing;
  • Promote a culture of shared leadership and collaboration, balancing openness with effective decision-making and accountability;
  • Model the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior, serving as a role model for students and staff;
  • Demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills when engaging with diverse audiences, ensuring messages are clear, respectful, and responsive to the needs of the community.

Organizational Leadership and School Operations

  • Ensure the effective operation of the school in alignment with District policies, Board of Education priorities, and the Strategic Plan, while contributing to the development and refinement of district practices and procedures;
  • Lead and manage school systems to ensure coherent, efficient, and equitable operations, including instructional programs, student services, discipline systems, extracurricular activities, and building use;
  • Develop and implement structures that support consistent student experiences and high-quality learning across all programs and classrooms;
  • Oversee the creation and management of the master schedule, ensuring equitable access to courses, appropriate sequencing of learning, and alignment with instructional priorities.
  • Establish and monitor systems for student attendance, engagement, and accountability, using data to inform interventions and improve outcomes;
  • Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements and maintain accurate records related to student data, enrollment, and school operations;
  • Coordinate school activities, events, and facility use to support a well organized and responsive school environment;
  • Supervise and evaluate operational systems, including safety procedures, emergency protocols, and building management, to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

Personal Leadership and Growth

  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning, actively engaging in professional development, leadership networks, and reflective practice to strengthen instructional and organizational leadership;
  • Model the principles of a lifelong learner, applying new knowledge, research, and best practices to improve teaching, learning, and school systems;
  • Engage in professional opportunities at the regional, state, and national levels to remain current on educational trends, policy, and innovation;
  • Reflect on leadership practices and use feedback and data to drive continuous improvement in service of student outcomes;
  • Serve as a role model for staff and students by demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of leadership.
