About the Position

The New York State Executive Chamber is seeking a motivated Diversity & Inclusion Intern to join the Governor’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Our office provides executive leadership and strategic advising to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across New York State government. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with interagency collaboration, assisting in the development and execution of equity efforts across the statewide enterprise. The Diversity and Inclusion Intern will play an active role in advancing the administration's equity goals. This includes contributing to high-impact initiatives such as the DEIA Toolkit and the Title VI Working Group, as well as conducting specialized research into emerging policy areas, including the intersection of AI and accessibility and the development of psychological safety and trust in public-sector engagement.

This position requires 100% on-site attendance in our office in Albany, NY.

Duties

  • Legislative Tracking: Monitor and track relevant litigation, legislation, and government hearings, particularly bills that are opposed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts, and discriminatory legislative proposals targeting gender identity.
  • Weekly Digests: Review and aggregate a weekly rundown of regional and national news articles pertaining to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to ensure the office remains informed on current DEIA discourse.
  • Policy & Research: Perform policy research and data analysis to inform and support the development of State of the State legislative and programmatic proposals.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Possess a deep interest in, or academic exposure to, diversity, equity, and inclusion frameworks, best practices, and strategic implementation.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in New York State public policy and a commitment to advancing the administration’s core missions and initiatives.
  • Exhibit robust critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying solutions and taking initiative on complex tasks.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously while maintaining a meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Minimum Qualifications

Interns must be currently enrolled as an active student, in good academic standing, in an undergraduate degree program, and must remain enrolled as an active student in good academic standing in an undergraduate degree program through the duration of the internship.

Interns must be a NYS resident, or attending a college or university located in NYS.

Employment with the New York State Executive Chamber is contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation.

Pay & Benefits

$21.85/hr

The NYS Executive Chamber offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous annual leave with additional personal and sick time, paid holidays, NYS pension plan, affordable health insurance options such as The Empire Plan and several regional HMO options, no-cost Dental and Vision Care insurance, optional Life Insurance up to $500,000 or 5x salary, Flex Spending Account, Deferred Compensation Plan, Employee Assistance Program, and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF).
