The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) partners with Latinx and all communities of color to end gender-based violence. Created as a grassroots response to intimate partner violence and sexual assault, VIP has always centered Latinx survivors in its leadership and has worked to create a community of staff that reflects the rich national, ethnic and racial diversity of the communities we serve. VIP operates four non-residential social service programs, two residential shelter and housing programs, a 24/7 hotline, and a robust communications and outreach department.
The Bookkeeper will execute d aily bookkeeping tasks, including recording dai ly income and expense transactions and prepare the books to be reconciled . The Bookkeeper will also assist the Comptroller with preparing and submitting reports. The Bookkeeper will also help prepare for grant-specific and program-wide audits.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain complete general l edger for all f inancial transaction s of the organization ;
- Balance books for the preparation of report s to show income, expenses and other items relating to bookkeeping of the organization ;
- T rack organization’s accounts payable and accounts receivable ;
- Enter and maintain cash receipts , disbursement journal and general ledger ;
- Prepare bank reconciliation for all bank accounts ;
- Assist the Fiscal Director in preparation of the annual financial audits;
- Assist the Fiscal Director in prepar ing the annual budget for the organization ;
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Comptroller , Fiscal Director or Executive Director.
Requirements:
- Bachelors’ degree in accounting /finance or 2 years of experience in accounting and budgeting ;
- Bilingual a plus (English/Spanish) ;
- Working knowledge of fund accounting software ( e.g. Fund EZ) and a high degree of spreadsheet application proficiency are strongly preferred ;
- Strong verbal, written, communication and documenting skills ;
- Must be well organized, assertive, work independently and collectively, while maintaining a flexible work schedule ;
- Must have a strong commitment to working in diverse setting and to supporting delivery of culturally sensitive services;
- Strong collaborative skills and approach to leadership that promotes staff growth and creativity;
- Ability to operate office equipment such as computers, copy & fax machine, phone system, etc., with strong internet and software skills; incl. Microsoft Office and donor database
- Ability to lift at least (30 lbs.) and travel via public transportation (bus, train, etc.)
- Must ensure agency, program and client confidentiality at all times .
General Requirements:
All staff are expected to be committed to the mission, vision and values of the Violence Intervention Program, Inc , which includes involvement in quality improvement activities and a willingness to work within a culturally diverse environment.
The Bookkeeper is expected to work at least 35 hours per week, with a flexible schedule for activities on nights and weekends.
