Staff Frontend Engineer (NYC)

Carter Wellington is partnering with a venture-backed NYC technology company building a deeply technical product used by fast-growing teams operating at scale.

This is a role for engineers who care about craft, product impact, and technical ownership, not just shipping tickets.

You’ll work on complex frontend systems where performance, architecture, and user experience genuinely matter. The team moves quickly, values strong opinions, and hires engineers who want to build, iterate, and solve meaningful problems alongside highly capable peers.

What You’ll Work On

• Shipping production features end-to-end with real ownership.
• Building modern, performant interfaces using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Solving hard frontend problems involving data-heavy workflows and real-time interactions.
• Collaborating closely with design and product to shape system behaviour,not just implementation.
• Working directly with technical stakeholders to understand real-world use cases.
• Contributing to architectural decisions as the product scales.

• Engineers with 3–5 years of experience in high-quality engineering environments.

Technical Expectations

• Strong TypeScript engineering skills.
• Deep experience with React and modern web architecture.
• Experience shipping production systems using Next.js or similar frameworks.
• Ability to reason about performance, scalability, and frontend architecture.
• Experience integrating APIs and SDKs.

Bonus signals:

• Real-time collaboration systems, CRDTs, or complex state management.
• Chrome extensions or advanced browser-based tooling.
• Workflow builders or automation platforms.
• Experience working with typed API specifications (OpenAPI, Conjure, Smithy).
