Position Summary

The Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health is a dynamic workplace with a strong commitment to improving population health for over 100 years. We are seeking candidates for up to three positions in the Graduate Public Health Program who will contribute to the development and growth of the new Center for Climate Change and Health Equity ( CCCHE ) . These are calendar year (12-month) positions, fully funded by New York State, that are tenure eligible. Those hired for these positions will also make contributions to the scholarship and service missions of the School of Public Health and Health Professions ( SPHHP ) and assist in the development and delivery of curriculum on climate change and population health.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in climate change and health research using environmental epidemiology, environmental risk/exposure assessment, climate modeling, and/or environmental justice/health disparity approaches.

Candidates at the Assistant Professor HS (tenure eligible) level will conduct independent research and support center-led transdisciplinary initiatives. We are interested in candidates from all backgrounds in climate and health, with particular interest in candidates who focus upon climate adaptation and resilience, One Health/Planetary Health, geospatial modeling and mapping, implementation science, global health, and climate policy.

Candidates applying at the Assistant Professor HS (tenure eligible) level will conduct research on the health effects of climate change and contribute to larger team projects. These faculty members will:
  • Grow research productivity of the CCCHE by obtaining grant funding and producing peer-reviewed publications and public communication materials. Candidates must show potential for obtaining funding to support their research in climate change and health fields.
  • Conduct service commensurate with level of expertise.
  • Provide mentorship to trainees.
  • Develop relationships with community partners.
  • Teach 1 course (3-4 credit hours) per semester.

The Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health prides itself in its multidisciplinary faculty, with faculty research focused on chronic diseases (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, periodontal disease, diabetes, eye disease), environmental health, global health, infectious disease, womens health, genetics, nutrition, health care delivery, quality of care, health policy, health economics, and health disparities.

About the School of Public Health and Health Professions ( SPHHP )
SPHHP offers programs at every degree level and is the home to departments of biostatistics, community health and health behavior, epidemiology and environmental health, exercise and nutrition sciences, and rehabilitation science. It is one of only a few schools across the country that includes both health-related professions and public health. It has a diverse student body which it is actively engaged in supporting. Minimum Qualifications

Candidates at the Assistant Professor HS (tenure eligible) level should have experience applying for research funding and have expertise in the area of climate change and health using environmental epidemiology, environmental risk/exposure assessment, climate modeling, and/or environmental justice/health disparity approaches.
  • A doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DDS , PharmD, DVM , etc.) in a public health discipline or a related field
  • Peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals, particularly papers that demonstrate expertise in the area of climate change and health or related areas
  • Experience or evidence of potential to apply for research funding
Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the minimum qualifications, preferred qualifications for the Assistant Professor HS (tenure eligible) level include:
  • Experience with public engagement in policy, health care, or community settings
  • Experience or evidence of potential to mentor graduate students
  • A record of excellence in research/scholarship, teaching and service
