Payroll Specialist
Payroll Specialist – Construction Experience Preferred
About the Role
Schultz Construction is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to manage multi-company payroll operations in a fast-paced construction environment. This role is critical to ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for both office and field employees.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically strong, and comfortable managing complex payroll processes in a fast-paced environment. Construction payroll experience strongly preferred, including certified payroll, prevailing wage compliance, Davis-Bacon reporting, union payroll, and field timekeeping.
What You’ll Do
- Process full-cycle payroll, including wages, bonuses, deductions, fringes, and taxes
- Collect, review, verify and enter employee timekeeping data from payroll systems (B2W) and paper timesheets into Sage 300CRE
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
- Prepare and file payroll tax reports, including W-2s, 940s, 941s, unemployment, disability, and paid family leave filings
- Maintain accurate payroll records for reporting, audits, and compliance purposes
- Process benefit deductions and ensure accurate payroll-related benefit transactions
- Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with payroll-related general ledger entries
- Generate payroll reports for leadership and internal stakeholders
- Support internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and responding to inquiries
- Troubleshoot payroll system issues and support system maintenance
- Assist in maintaining Sage and B2W payroll systems
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, accuracy, and efficiency
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- Construction industry payroll experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience with Sage, B2W or other timekeeping programs, and Microsoft Excel
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Compensation
Expected salary range: $72,000 – $82,000 annually
Compensation will be based on experience, systems knowledge, and construction payroll expertise.

Work Environment & Expectations
This is a full-time, in-person office-based role located in Ballston Spa, NY.
Occasional extended hours may be required to support payroll processing deadlines and business needs.
