Summer Camp Site Director - Lead NYC Premier STEM Camp
A summer that advances your career
This opportunity is ideal for educators and program leaders seeking meaningful summer work- gaining real leadership experience, building a team, and shaping the summer for over 60 children and their families. By season’s end, you’ll enhance your resume, build a network of 400+ NORY educators, and have tangible accomplishments to share in future interviews.
NORY is the leading STEM camp provider in NYC and Boston, serving over 4,000 campers each summer across 10+ locations. We are known as the Disney World of STEM education, offering an immersive, joyful experience that inspires 3–12-year-olds to become purposeful changemakers through robotics, coding, woodworking, and engineering.
Why people choose NORY
- Genuine leadership development. This position serves as a launchpad into senior education leadership. You’ll manage a team, oversee site operations, and represent NORY to dozens of families.
- STEM training included. We offer comprehensive training in robotics, coding, woodworking, and engineering. No previous STEM experience is necessary, and the skills you gain will benefit any future education role.
- A supportive community. Join 400+ NORY educators across NYC and Boston who are dedicated to their work, encourage mutual growth, and celebrate learning through “awesome mistakes.”
- A path to year-round opportunities. 60% of our Site Directors return for another season or move into year-round roles at NORY, such as afterschool programs, holiday camps, or full-time operations.
What you’ll do
- Lead a team of 6–12 counselors. Provide daily coaching, facilitate morning huddles, offer meaningful feedback, and support their growth as educators.
- Serve as the primary contact for families. Welcome parents at drop-off and pickup, proactively address concerns, and communicate weekly about their child’s experience.
- Oversee site operations. Manage daily schedules, materials, facilities, safety protocols, attendance, and incident reporting.
- Step in to teach as needed. Fill in for counselors or lead a class to ensure a consistent, high-quality camper experience.
Compensation
The weekly rate ranges from $1,300 to $1,635 (base of $1,300–$1,513 depending on experience and site size, plus up to $122 in weekly performance bonuses).
Your earnings increase with the number of weeks you work. Approximately:
- 4 weeks: $5,200–$6,540
- 6 weeks: $7,800–$9,810
- 8 weeks: $10,400–$13,080
- 10 weeks: $13,000–$16,350
- 12 weeks (full season): $15,600–$19,620
Additional benefits:
- Lunch provided daily
- 401(k) eligibility
- Paid weekend training before camp begins
The season
Our camp runs from Monday, June 8 to Friday, September 4, 2026 (12 weeks). You can indicate your available weeks, though continuous weeks are strongly preferred to ensure consistent leadership and a more rewarding experience for both campers and counselors. Please include your availability when applying.
Daily schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM at smaller sites or 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM at larger sites (larger sites are compensated at the higher rate). Paid weekend training before camp starts.
Who we’re looking for
- 3+ years of experience working with children ages 3–12. Experience in teaching, camp leadership, or similar roles required; STEM background is a plus but not necessary.
- Proven team leadership. You have managed or mentored at least four people and can demonstrate how you supported their development.
- Strong family engagement skills. You confidently and compassionately handle both routine and challenging parent conversations.
- Operational steadiness. You remain organized and composed when unexpected situations arise.
- Growth mindset. You’re receptive to feedback, eager to learn new tools, and committed to personal development.
A teaching license or STEM degree is not required. Effectiveness with children, professionalism with adults, and reliability under pressure are essential.
