Assistant Director, Early Childhood Programs

The Assistant Director of Early Childhood Programs supports the Director in the leadership, coordination, and administration of early childhood services, including licensed daycare programs and a special education preschool. The Assistant Director helps ensure the delivery of developmentally appropriate, high-quality educational experiences for children in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment. This role works closely with program staff, families, school districts, and regulatory agencies to support day-to-day operations, staff supervision, curriculum fidelity, compliance, and family engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Coordination and Support:
    • Assist in planning and coordinating the delivery of early childhood education programs.
    • Support the Director in evaluating program effectiveness and implementing improvements aligned with organizational and regulatory goals.
  • Staff Supervision and Support:
    • Help supervise teaching and support staff, providing guidance, feedback, and informal coaching.
    • Assist with onboarding, training, and coordination of professional development activities.
    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work culture.
  • Curriculum Implementation:
    • Support consistent use of developmentally appropriate curricula and teaching practices.
    • Monitor instructional quality and help address curriculum-related challenges in collaboration with teachers and specialists.
    • Assist in aligning services with the needs of children with IEPs or developmental delays.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
    • Monitor compliance with OCFS, NYSED, and other applicable regulations.
    • Support safety procedures and ensure adherence to health and licensing standards.
    • Participate in safety audits and assist in policy development.
  • Family and Community Engagement:
    • Serve as a liaison to families, supporting communication, engagement, and resolution of concerns.
    • Assist with organizing family events and building partnerships with community resources.
  • Administrative and Operational Support:
    • Help manage enrollment, attendance tracking, and student records.
    • Support financial tracking, budget monitoring, and resource allocation in coordination with the Director.
    • Participate in maintaining operational efficiency and meeting programmatic deadlines.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with internal teams, school districts, and external partners to ensure service coordination.
    • Support team meetings, interdepartmental planning, and communication strategies.
    • Promote teamwork and a student-centered culture.
  • Quality Assurance and Evaluation:
    • Assist with ongoing program evaluation and quality monitoring processes.
    • Support data collection, analysis, and reporting to inform program enhancements.
    • Participate in family consultations, treatment team meetings, and program planning.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in early childhood education, including experience supporting program operations or leading teams in an instructional or administrative capacity.

Education:

  • Possess a valid New York State (NYS) teaching certificate for classroom teaching services to students with disabilities (birth-grade 2 or all grades) or hold certification in early childhood education. Alternatively, may hold NYS certification or licensure in speech-language pathology, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, or a related services field.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Eligible for or holds a valid New York State certification as a School Building Leader (SBL), School District Administrator (SDA), or School Administrator/Supervisor (SAS) preferred.
