Dance Instructor/Choreographer

Dance Pointe Performing Arts Center in Selden and Miller Place, New York is hiring for the following positions. Seeking part-time energetic, dependable and committed instructors for preschool to adult students.

The ideal candidate will have strong skills and significant experience in teaching several dance styles including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acro and Gymnastics, Lyrical, Hip Hop. We are also seeking Musical Theater, Voice, Piano, Guitar, Violin, Viola Music Instructors.

Help provide leadership and character development through dance and music education to our community. Our organization highly values community and inclusion. Instructors are expected to serve as mentors and examples to students in addition to teaching high quality classes.

For Dance Teachers -

- Other experience includes choreographing and staging performances, creating lesson plans appropriate for different skill levels/ages, and facilitating a safe and positive classroom environment.

- Candidates must be comfortable with and enjoy teaching a wide range of ages and skill levels from very young children through adults.

- Minimum of 10+ years of dance training.

- Minimum of 5+ years of teaching dance.

- Teaching certificate, continuing education after High School (Bachelor's Degree is desired), dance degree(s), and/or extensive dance experience preferred; those who are currently enrolled in a dance degree program and/or with work experience in the field of dance will also be considered.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to work as an effective team member with like minded teachers and staff in a friendly inspiring atmosphere.

For Music Teachers -

- Must demonstrate an understanding of band instruments, voice and piano training, drama and musical theater concepts, music education and be able to work well with children.

- Minimum of 10+ years of music training.

- Minimum of 5+ years of teaching music.

- Must be able to read music.

- Must be available to work at least four total hours and at least two days per week.

- Some positions may require work on weekends (based on a privately scheduled lesson).

- Teaching certificate, continuing education after High School (Bachelor's Degree is desired), music/theater degree(s), and/or extensive music/theater experience preferred; those who are currently enrolled in a music/theater degree program and/or with work experience in the field of music will also be considered.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

-Ability to work as an effective team member with like minded teachers and staff in a friendly inspiring atmosphere.

Instructors at Dance Pointe are asked to assist in the following areas in addition to teaching: subbing other classes, front office, marketing, open house, enrollment, mass intros, staff meetings, and any other studio functions.

We offer a competitive hourly rate that is based on education and experience flexible schedule of weekday after-school hours and weekend days. We handle the initial marketing, scheduling, booking, billing and other business aspects of the lessons/group classes so that you can focus on teaching.

You must be eligible to work in the U.S. for at least two years without sponsorship or a visa. Please do not apply if you cannot meet this requirement. You already live within a reasonable daily commute to our Miller Place and Selden locations, and you have the means to commute by car. There is a mandatory background check before hire.
