Life Insurance Supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Staff: monitor and control the flow of life insurance claims processing. Assign and distribute new claims. Ensure that life payments are processed timely once all required documents are received and in accordance with policy and procedures
  • Maintain a spreadsheet log of all assigned work for follow-up at specified times and track the incoming volume of work
  • Review and assess staff performances. Answer staff questions, coach, train, counsel and develop plans for corrective action. Prepare weekly, monthly reports of the unit's activities turnaround times where all new claims are acknowledged within 15 days of receipt and are processed for payment within 10 business days of the receipt of all required information and ensure that appropriate deadline is met. Ensure that the staff is following up for needed information timely. Review files that are ready for closing
  • Collaborate with management team in the development of procedures that support improving processes and procedures and adherence to the guidelines provided by the Insurer (Amalgamated) or the State of New York. Play major role in the continued enhancement of the Life Insurance Tracking System (LITS)
  • Handle complex calls and difficult claims and issues resulting from inquiries and appeals
  • Monitor attendance and lateness. Prepare and maintain staff attendance and lateness records
  • Oversee telephone ACD loop line staff and see that the standard of 95% is met on a daily basis.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related area or equivalent years of work experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience processing Life claims; to include one (1) year of experience in a leadership role required
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and V3 preferred.
  • Ability to handle sensitive interactions with beneficiaries
  • Excellent knowledge of Life Insurance claim processing practices, including benefits determination and eligibility requirements
  • Proven analytical skills and project management skills
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and decision making skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; good attention to detail
  • Able to multi-task, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments
