Overview

A well-established HVAC and mechanical contracting company is seeking an experienced HVAC Buyer / Purchasing Agent to join their team in Farmingdale, NY. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background purchasing HVAC and mechanical materials, negotiating pricing, managing vendor relationships, and sourcing equipment in a fast-paced construction and service environment.

The ideal candidate must have multiple years of hands-on experience ordering and “shopping out” HVAC and mechanical materials, with the ability to ensure projects are supplied accurately, cost-effectively, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Purchase HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical materials for commercial projects and service operations
• Source and “shop out” pricing from vendors and suppliers to secure competitive costs
• Review project specifications, submittals, and material requirements
• Coordinate material deliveries to jobsites and warehouse locations
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers
• Negotiate pricing, lead times, and purchasing agreements
• Track orders, backorders, and delivery schedules to avoid project delays
• Work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and Field Teams to ensure material accuracy and availability
• Maintain purchasing records, vendor quotes, and inventory levels
• Assist with identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving purchasing processes

Qualifications

• Multiple years of experience purchasing HVAC and mechanical materials required
• Strong knowledge of HVAC equipment, parts, sheet metal, piping, controls, and related materials
• Experience working with HVAC contractors, mechanical suppliers, or construction companies
• Ability to effectively “shop out” materials and compare vendor pricing
• Strong negotiation and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and purchasing or ERP systems
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and follow-up skills

Preferred Experience

• Commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting industry experience
• Familiarity with local HVAC suppliers and manufacturers

Experience supporting large-scale commercial or industrial projects
