Critical Systems Battery Technician
Join a dedicated team in Barker, NY as a Critical Systems Technician II, specializing in battery systems for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. This role is essential in supporting the reliability and safety of critical infrastructure by performing startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance on battery systems. Responsibilities
- Assist with battery replacements and new installations for UPS systems.
- Support preventative and scheduled maintenance of batteries with minimal disruption to customers.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site during all phases of work.
- Follow operational, maintenance, and emergency procedures to ensure safety and compliance.
- Interact effectively with internal teams and external customers to ensure high-quality service.
- Assist in the warehouse and support other service divisions (Switch Gear, Operations, HVAC) as needed.
- Utilize hand tools and general maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Work from schematic diagrams, sketches, and verbal instructions.
- Learn to disconnect and connect sealed batteries in cabinets and open racks.
- Learn to build and install flooded cell battery racks and spill containment systems.
- Enter pre-installation test readings and collect data from maintenance services using a laptop.
- Gain experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs on DC battery systems with increasing independence.
- Adhere strictly to facility work rules and safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
- Travel approximately 30% or more as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Services Management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of or willingness to learn AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
- Ability to use digital multimeters, amp clamps, and battery testing equipment (training provided).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to follow safety protocols, including the use of isolation devices and PPE.
- Understanding of battery string connections (series, parallel, series-parallel) and installation best practices (training provided).
- OSHA 10-hour certification and NFPA-70E Safety Training (or willingness to obtain).
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
