Systems Engineer III

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining data network performance, integrity, security and connectivity, and data protection. This is a technical position responsible for overseeing local area network systems, data and equipment. The incumbent is responsible for developing and maintaining data network performance, integrity, security and connectivity, and data protection. The incumbent supports the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN), including subsequent on-going maintenance and support of such networks and systems. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
· Resolve highest level escalated technical issues
· Address user needs to a wide variety of environments
· Design and create computer networks within the organization in order to ensure operation and availability with a focus on customer needs
· Implement and ensure security measures are in place to protect data
· Optimize network and server performance
· Design, deploy, and test security
· Monitors and maintains network performance, resources, security and data integrity to include the upgrade and installation of hardware and software as required;
· Research and consult with county departments regarding network and server needs, plan the network infrastructure and oversee the installation of network equipment including configuring firewalls, switches, and servers;
· Design and manage network backups and disaster recovery;
· Manage virtual server environment;
· Design, configure and support Microsoft Exchange environment;
· Support the file systems and shared network data storage;
· Design user account policy and access rights policy;
· Document / monitor licensing information and application information;
· Design deployment of user workstation;
· Diagnose and resolve network hardware and software problems;
· Resolve escalated issues with servers and network equipment;
· Tests software, hardware and connectivity options, researches industry trends, and recommends appropriate changes in hardware and software standards;
· Plans, implements, and supports network solutions between multiple platforms;
· Provide network support;
· Manage security of data;
· Perform special projects as assigned by supervisor;
· Perform other work within the scope of Information Technology Services as assigned by Supervisor;

· High level of knowledge of associated equipment and their integration into networks;
· High level of knowledge and ability to maintain network and server performance and security;

· Ability to maintain related systems records and prepare reports;
· Ability to design, install, update and maintain networks and servers;
· Ability to train and instruct users and department staff;
· Ability to understand, interpret and follow complex technical written and oral instructions;
· Ability to establish effective working relationships with users and co-workers;
· Tact; dependability, sound professional judgment;
· Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position;
Minimum Qualifications: EITHER:
((A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science, computer technology, or a closely related field and six (6) years of related IT experience, three (3) of which as a senior level; OR
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree in information technology, computer science, computer technology, or a closely related field and eight (8) years of related IT experience, three (3) of which as a senior level; OR
(C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma or equivalent and ten (10) years of related IT experience, three (3) of which as a senior level.

Pay: $75,241.00 - $81,786.00 per year
