Who You Are:

The Head of Legal for Retail will be the primary legal leader for Galaxy Digital’s retail-facing platform, providing strategic legal guidance and ensuring compliance across a diverse range of financial products. This role, which will report to Galaxy’s Chief Legal Officer, requires a highly experienced attorney with deep expertise in regulated financial services for retail markets, ideally with direct experience in cryptocurrency and blockchain-based solutions. The successful candidate will oversee legal matters related to retail banking, brokerage, crypto, and lending, while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to support GalaxyOne’s mission of delivering innovative financial services.

What You’ll Do:

• Legal Leadership: Serve as the primary legal lead for GalaxyOne, providing strategic counsel on all legal and regulatory matters impacting the platform’s retail-facing products.
• Regulatory Compliance: Oversee compliance with federal and state regulations governing retail banking, brokerage, cryptocurrency, and lending, including but not limited to SEC, FINRA, CFTC, CFPB, and state-specific financial regulations.
• Product Support: Provide legal guidance on the development, launch, and scaling of GalaxyOne’s financial products, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Crypto Expertise: Advise on legal and regulatory considerations specific to cryptocurrency and blockchain-based financial products, including digital asset custody, trading, and compliance with evolving crypto regulations.
• Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and partnerships related to GalaxyOne’s operations, including vendor agreements, clearing relationships, and third-party service providers.
• Risk Mitigation: Identify and manage legal and regulatory risks, developing policies and procedures to safeguard the platform and its users.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (e.g., compliance, product, operations) and external counsel to ensure seamless execution of legal and regulatory strategies.
• Policy Advocacy: Monitor and analyze regulatory developments in retail financial services and cryptocurrency, providing proactive recommendations to senior leadership.
• Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Manage and oversee any legal disputes, investigations, or regulatory inquiries related to GalaxyOne’s operations.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of legal experience in regulated financial services, with a focus on retail banking, brokerage, or lending; direct experience in cryptocurrency or blockchain-based financial products strongly preferred.
• Education: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
• Regulatory Expertise: Deep knowledge of financial regulations, including SEC, FINRA, CFTC, CFPB, TILA, RESPA, and state banking/lending laws; familiarity with global crypto regulations (e.g., AML/KYC, FATF) is a plus.
• Crypto Familiarity: Demonstrated experience advising on legal and regulatory matters in or related to the cryptocurrency or digital asset space, including token offerings, custody, or trading platforms.
• Commercial Expertise: Demonstrated experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial agreements with sophisticated financial counterparties.
• Strategic Thinking: Ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into actionable strategies that support business growth and innovation.
• Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise senior leadership, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and engage with regulators.
• Leadership: Proven ability to lead complex legal initiatives, manage external counsel, and mentor junior legal staff. Strong ethical compass and ability to timely identify and elevate issues needing resolution.
• Technical Acumen: Familiarity with fintech platforms, digital financial services, and blockchain technology is highly desirable.

The base salary ranges included below will be commensurate with candidate experience, expertise and local market. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise. At Galaxy, we maintain a total compensation philosophy which consists of a competitive base salary, annual bonus, and equity incentives.

Base Salary Range

$275,000—$300,000 USD
