We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in our Woodbury (Long Island) NY offices. This is a hybrid role allowing the candidate to work 2-3 days per week in the office and 2-3 days per week at home, as business allows. The Staff Accountant will be an integral part of the Finance Department, playing a key role in managing core accounting functions while getting hands-on experience across various financial areas. Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of day-to-day accounting functions, including account reconciliations, preparing journal entries, and investigating and resolving account discrepancies
  • Responsibility for calculating and recording various month end accruals, including those for consulting, payroll, employee expenses, utilities
  • Assist in preparation and reconciliation of Prepaid expense accounts ensuring timely amortization and accurate monthly expense recognition schedules and month end journal entries
  • Manage fixed asset accounting process including
    • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger, ensuring accurate recording of additions, disposals, and adjustments
    • Prepare and update monthly fixed asset roll forwards and depreciation schedules
    • Review expenditures and invoices to ensure proper classification and capitalization in accordance with GAAP and company policy
  • Map and load subsidiary entity’s trial balance in D365 for consolidation, perform analytical reviews of the entity’s results, and prepare and post US GAAP required accruals not reflected in statutory reporting
  • Prepare balance sheet and P&L account analysis, including documenting variance explanations which will support management presentations
  • Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns across multiple states utilizing Avalara software, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance
  • Prepare quarterly 941 reconciliations, ensuring accuracy between payroll records, general ledger, and tax submissions
  • Maintain and track the company’s business licenses, including monitoring renewal dates, preparing filings and ensuring compliance
  • Prepare and file various business and property tax returns
  • Assist with annual audit requests by preparing supporting documentation
  • Prepare and maintain process documentation with a continued focus on improving efficiencies, policies and business practices

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; CPA and/or MBA desirable
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Solid grasp of GAAP
  • Familiar with ERP systems, D365 is a plus
  • 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate setting, audit experience a plus
