Controller

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of The Second Wind. The Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting function, financial reporting, month-end close, payroll oversight, and internal controls, ensuring accurate and timely financial information across the organization.

The ideal candidate has strong healthcare accounting experience, preferably within a medical group, outpatient healthcare organization, or behavioral health setting, and is comfortable managing hands-on accounting work while also supporting broader financial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements

  • Prepare financial statements and reports for review by leadership

  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis

  • Monitor cash flow and support cash management activities

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures

  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with leadership

  • Assist with revenue cycle reporting, including AR aging, collections tracking, and payer reimbursement reconciliation

  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax preparers as needed

  • Supervise accounting or bookkeeping staff, if applicable

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare financial regulations and reporting requirements

  • Support system and process improvements for accounting workflows and reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

  • CPA a plus, not required

  • Minimum of 4-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting role

  • Prior experience in healthcare, medical group operations, behavioral health, or outpatient healthcare settings strongly preferred

  • Strong understanding of month-end close processes, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting

  • Familiarity with healthcare billing, revenue cycle basics, and payer reimbursement a plus

  • Experience with accounting software and financial reporting systems

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
