Who we are

Our engineering department consists of 200+ people across multiple teams, such as application development, infrastructure, data platform, machine learning, and security. We believe our company will win in the long run through product innovation. To get there, we obsess over iteratively delivering customer value through rapid prototyping and data-driven decision-making.

We’re looking for a self-motivated, highly driven Staff Software Engineer to bolster our Journeys Engineering team. Our team is focused on building a platform that drives valuable conversations with our users based on billions of incoming events per day.

• You understand how to negotiate with Product Management to meet the user’s needs without sacrificing quality or accruing tech debt. You deeply loathe regressions and take proactive steps to protect against them through a variety of testing techniques
• You are constantly improving the quality of the project you are working on, both via code contributions as well as long-term advocacy for larger-scale changes
• Build amazing consumer experiences, taking responsibility for code quality, scalability, reliability and performance
• Collaborate with subject matter experts, fellow developers, and internal stakeholders to turn business goals into achievable technical roadmaps

• You have worked professionally with web technologies for 8+ years
• You have development experience with either Java, Python or Go
• You have development experience with relational and non-relational databases
• You have development experience with streaming technologies
• You have experience architecting applications for high scale
• You have a proven track record of building applications that maintain a high bar of quality
• You are an empathetic communicator who can work seamlessly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and are adept at using business goals to turn that ambiguity into clear deliverables
• You are excited by new technologies but are conscious of choosing them for the right reasons

• 8,000 brands powered by Attentive sent over 2.2 billion text messages over Cyber Week 2023 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday) representing a growth of 31% from 2022
• We sent 32 billion SMS messages in 2023, up 32% YoY. That’s an average of 87 million per day
• Our production cluster contains over 18,000 containers which serve 200+ services
• Our streaming services process over 80 billion events per month

• We use a wide variety of technology and we’re always looking for the best solutions to solve hard problems.
• Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Pulsar, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS.
• Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright

- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $184,000 - $270,000 annually + equity + benefits
