Position Purpose: Supports the Career Center's mission to provide effective educational programs and services to assist students and alumni with their professional development. Collaborates with members of the campus community to provide effective Career Advising to all students through academic departments and student organizations. Supports efforts in developing and implementing Career Education programming that is in alignment with the Career Center's strategy. Seeks to engage alumni and students in Career Education programming. Represents Union College and the Career Center at consortia events and selected conferences and collaborates with the Executive Director in establishing metrics for annual reporting and continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities and tasks:

» Customer Service: Provides career advising related to internships, jobs, graduate school, gap-year opportunities, fellowships, etc. to a diverse community of undergraduate students and alumni. Provides instruction and advising to students on all aspects of career planning, including assessment, document development, networking, interviewing, opportunity search resources and tactics, offers review and acceptance, professional etiquette, etc. Collaborates with Career Center colleagues on designing and implementing signature programs. Designs, coordinates and/or presents Career Education workshops and programs that address the needs of students and employers. Collaborates with members of the campus community (faculty, coaches, staff, etc.) to deliver educational programs that help students develop and execute their professional plans. Seeks to engage alumni, students, parents, employers, etc. in Career Education programming.

» Administrative: Collaborates with the Executive Director in developing metrics and reporting results assessing the effectiveness of Career Education programs and services and foster continued improvement. Assists with maintaining Career Center guides, handouts, website and other resources designed to facilitate student learning of career planning strategy and tactics.

» Employer Relations: Supports collaboration with other departments, especially College Relations to develop opportunities to engage alumni and parents in career-related education and events. Assists Employer Relations with organizing events and programs, including the Career Fair and other alumni/parent networking events. Proactively works with Employer Relations as a liaison to academics, affinity groups, athletics and student clubs.

» Professional Development: Represents Union College and the Career Center at consortia events and selected conferences and participates in significant professional development opportunities with selective consortia.

Qualifications required

»Bachelor's degree, 1-3 years of direct 1:1 career advising practice or practice in a career center and/or higher education, preferably in a liberal arts setting, or a combination of significant education, training, certifications, and work practice. Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration or a related discipline is strongly preferred.

»Excellent interpersonal expertise, including the presence and poise needed to interact and develop rapport with all constituencies (faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, and employers), and excellent teamwork expertise.

»Strong project and time management, computer (e.g. Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and social media expertise.

»Effective public speaking and presentation expertise with capability to positively influence on- and off-campus groups.

»Demonstrated familiarity with the internship and employment recruitment process, very desirable.

»Must be willing to work occasional nights, weekends and holidays and to attend student-related events of interest outside of working hours.

»Able to exercise exceptional judgment, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism in a range of situations.

»Able to support, contribute to, and strengthen a vibrant, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community of students, alumni, faculty, and staff colleagues.

»Able to introduce and drive innovation in ways small and large.

»Able to proactively identify and pursue significant learning and professional development opportunities and apply new expertise, insights, and expertise to enhance results.
The expected rate for this job offer is $58,500.00 - $60,000.00. Except for functions with a set rate of pay, the wage/income of the finalist selected for this function will be set located on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, practice, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
