Senior Structural Engineer - Scope Development Consultant

Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time (Staff Augmentation)
License Required: New York State Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

Position Overview

The Senior Structural Engineer - Scope Development Consultant will provide high-level technical and project management expertise in developing conceptual designs, engineering analyses, and cost estimates for bridge and structural projects. This role will coordinate closely with the B&T staff, prepare detailed documentation, and ensure all designs and reports align with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual designs, technical reports, shop drawings, and as-built drawings to modify or strengthen existing bridge components or introduce new structural elements.

• Perform engineering calculations as necessary to support design concepts.

• Assess structural integrity and identify potential improvements to meet updated requirements.

• Prepare comprehensive conceptual sets of drawings and reports describing project background, objectives, design requirements, applicable codes, standards, and proposed solutions.

• Develop preliminary engineering cost estimates.

• Collaborate with B&T staff, participate in meetings, and contribute to project documentation and presentations.

Experience & Education Requirements

• Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.

• Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of civil/structural design experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of related management experience.

  • Experience in scope development, writing specifications, and applying technical standards and design guidelines preferred.

  • Familiarity with C&D design procedures preferred but not required.

• Licensing:

  • New York State Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.

  • Valid New York State driver's license required.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, and MicroStation/AutoCAD.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and coordinate effectively with project stakeholders.
