GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
The Maintainer (Registrar) will report to the Associate Manager Packing and Art Services. The Maintainer is responsible for the packing and unpacking of artwork both to and from the Museum as well as handling the art in a safe and proper manner.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Art handling and packing of art objects
Constructing wooden packing crates using manual and/or power tools while following standard safety procedures
Lifting and moving packing crates safely and properly
Measuring artwork and calculating interior and exterior specifications of packing materials
Candidate must complete Security Threat Assessment application
Other related duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred
Knowledge of basic packing materials required
Minimum two years’ experience with art handling is required.
Minimum two years’ experience with power tools (saws, drills, pneumatic guns), ability to do mathematical calculations, ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. without assistance, and carpentry skills are all required.
Candidate must be detail oriented, able to work under pressure and with close supervision.
Candidate must be able to interact in a professional manner with Metropolitan Museum of Art staff and visiting museum professionals.
Candidate must be available for regularly scheduled overtime and additional hours during peak exhibition periods.
COMPENSATION RATE:
Pay Rate: $25.96010 / Hourly
The advertised starting salary rate reflects the good faith minimum and maximum hourly rate for this role. Starting salary rates are set in accordance with established union rates provided by the economic agreement as established and negotiated by DC 37 and the City of New York, Office of Labor Relations. * Incumbent rates may vary depending on an individual employee’s seniority status, and/or based on terms as provided by the DC 37 Local 1503 and Museum collective bargaining agreement.

Location Requirements
At time of employment, employees are expected to be located within commuting distance of the Museum. “Commuting distance” means that they are located in one of following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania (the “Tri-state and PA” areas), and be able to commute to and from the Museum in a single day.
