Job Summary:
Reporting to the YWCA NENY Advocacy coordinator, the Victim Specialist Intern will assist victims of Domestic Violence (DV) by supporting intervention services and providing aid through court-related processes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist as part of an interdisciplinary team providing DV intervention services.
- Support assessment, linkage, and referral of individuals in crisis to appropriate services (e.g., shelter, legal services, health services).
- Aid individuals in completing and filing court documents such as Orders of Protection (OOP) and custody filings.
- Assist in accompanying individuals to court appearances, offering emotional support throughout the process.
- Collaborate with CPS caseworkers, case managers, and other DV service providers in the community.
- Participate in home visits with CPS caseworkers, when required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic understanding of crisis intervention and the court system.
- Familiarity with domestic violence issues and related legal implications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet research, and database use.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when dealing with sensitive information.
Education and Experience:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairs when necessary.
Additional Requirements:
- Must have a clean driving record and access to reliable transportation for work-related travel.
- Role required background checks.
