The Programming Coordinator for Student Activities plays a critical role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging student life experience. This position enhances campus engagement by designing and implementing late-night, weekend, and large-scale programming that contributes to student connection, school spirit, and a strong sense of belonging. The Programming Coordinator collaborates closely with students, staff, and on/off-campus partners to create experiences that promote community building and meaningful involvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Programming and Event Coordination
    • Design and implement late-night and weekend programming for students during the academic year.
    • Provide on-site evening and weekend support for programs and events as needed.
    • Plan and implement large-scale programs including Fall and Spring Welcome Week, CarnEVIL, and FAIRWell UAlbany.
    • Support execution of major campus traditions including Family Weekend, Open House, and Accepted Students Day.
    • Assist with the planning and implementation of the Student Leadership Awards Ceremony.
    • Develop and maintain co-sponsorship opportunities with campus partners and student organizations.
    • Coordinate vendor logistics, contracts, and purchasing processes in alignment with campus policies.
    • Responsibility manage allocations from the programming budget and provide regular updates to the Associate Director.
    • Support UAlbany GO initiatives, including Spirit Fridays, Homecoming, and collaborative programming with the Alumni Association.
  • Student Staff Supervision and Development
    • Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of student staff, including UAlbany GO Programming Assistants and UAlbany GO Ambassadors.
    • Support the training and development of graduate assistants and student employees.
    • Provide ongoing feedback, mentorship, and leadership development opportunities to student staff.
    • Supervise and support UAlbany GO Programming Assistants and Ambassadors, including scheduling, engagement, and evaluation.
  • Communications and Marketing
    • Manage and oversee UAlbany GO social media platforms, including content review and guidance for student staff.
    • Support development and distribution of the UAlbany GO weekly newsletter.
    • Coordinate marketing efforts including tabling, outreach, and promotional materials.
    • Manage event reservations and scheduling processes within EMS.
    • Provide support for departmental communication channels, including shared email accounts.
  • Administrative, Assessment, and Operational Support
    • Support daily operations of the Student Engagement & Belonging Office and Student Organization Resource Center.
    • Assist in maintaining processes related to event planning, reservations, and space management.
    • Collect and review basic program assessment data (e.g., attendance, feedback, engagement trends) to inform improvements.
    • Provide periodic summaries or insights to support program evaluation and decision-making.
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure a high-quality student experience in shared spaces.
  • Other Reasonable Duties as Assigned.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to the Associate Director for Programming, Student Organizations & Government, and Fraternity & Sorority Life, Office of Student Engagement & Belonging.
  • Supervises Graduate Assistant for Programming.
  • Serves as the task manager for six student assistants on the UAlbany GO Programming Team.

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of event logistics, vendor coordination, and campus programming processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to train, supervise, and mentor student staff and graduate assistants.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to support student development.
  • Familiarity with event management systems (e.g., EMS) and organizational tools.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, and apply basic assessment data to improve programs and services.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across campus.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive campus environment and sense of belonging.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and assess student programs and events.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education, student affairs, or related field.
  • One year of professional experience in Student Activities or a related field in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing social media platforms and marketing initiatives.

Working Environment:

  • The working environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring a combination of office-based administrative responsibilities, student engagement, event support, and campus collaboration. Work occurs in standard office settings, shared student spaces such as the Student Organization Resource Center, and various campus event locations. Responsibilities fluctuate throughout the academic year, with peak periods during orientation, recruitment/intake cycles, and major programming initiatives. Flexibility and adaptability are required.
  • Physical demands may include periods of sitting and computer use, as well as occasional standing, walking, and light lifting associated with meetings, programs, and event setup.
  • The position requires sustained attention to detail, multitasking, problem-solving, and sound judgment. Significant interpersonal interaction is expected, including advising student leaders, supervising staff, and collaborating with campus partners. The role requires strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to manage conflict and respond effectively to urgent or emergent situations.

Student Activities Associate, SL2, $51,261-53,000.
