Job Summary:
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) of a steakhouse is responsible for overseeing daily restaurant operations , ensuring exceptional guest experiences , managing staff, and supporting the General Manager (GM) in achieving revenue, cost control, and operational goals. The AGM plays a critical leadership role in maintaining service standards, optimizing efficiency, and driving profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Restaurant Operations & Guest Experience
- Oversee daily front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) operations to ensure smooth service.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, service, and cleanliness in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Address and resolve guest complaints and service issues promptly to maintain a high customer satisfaction rating.
- Monitor restaurant ambiance , ensuring the right lighting, music, and service flow for an upscale steakhouse experience.
2. Staff Management & Leadership
- Assist in hiring, training, and developing restaurant team members, including servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff.
- Lead pre-shift meetings and ensure employees are well-prepared for service.
- Supervise team performance and provide coaching to improve service efficiency and customer engagement.
- Manage employee scheduling, shift planning, and labor cost control to maximize productivity.
3. Financial Performance & Cost Control
- Support GM in achieving sales targets, controlling costs, and maximizing profit margins .
- Monitor food and beverage costs , labor expenses, and operational budgets.
- Ensure proper handling of cash, credit transactions, and POS system accuracy .
- Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies while minimizing waste.
4. Compliance & Safety
- Enforce health, safety, and sanitation standards in line with state and local regulations.
- Ensure compliance with liquor laws and responsible alcohol service practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and staff training on emergency procedures.
5. Marketing & Customer Relations
- Support promotional efforts, special events, and VIP guest relations to drive repeat business.
- Engage with customers, gather feedback, and implement strategies to enhance the dining experience.
- Monitor online reviews and respond professionally to maintain the restaurant’s reputation.
Qualifications & Skills:
✅ Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in a restaurant management role, strongly preferably in a steakhouse or fine dining setting.
✅ Leadership: Strong team management skills with experience in staff training, motivation, and conflict resolution .
✅ Financial Acumen: Understanding of P&L, labor cost control, and inventory management .
✅ Customer Service: Passion for hospitality and delivering a high-end dining experience.
✅ Operational Knowledge: Experience with POS systems, reservation management, and restaurant SOPs .
✅ Compliance: Familiarity with food safety regulations, liquor laws, and workplace safety standards .
✅ Skill s: Strong wine knowledge is required. Prefer to hold a Certified Sommelier credential or a WSET Level 3 Award in Wines.
✅ Problem-Solving: Ability to handle high-pressure situations with a calm, solutions-oriented approach .
