HYBRID - 3 days a week in office

Our client, a national leader in title and escrow services , is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriting Counsel to join its Agency Division in Tarrytown, NY. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to serve as a trusted legal advisor on real estate title insurance matters, providing underwriting guidance, risk analysis, and transactional support to internal teams, agents, and customers.

The position is ideal for a seasoned attorney who brings deep knowledge of real estate law, title underwriting, and regulatory compliance, along with a collaborative and solutions‑oriented mindset. The successful candidate will bring strong judgment, customer-centric communication skills, and the ability to manage a diverse pipeline of real estate transactions while applying underwriting standards and company guidelines.

Candidate Profile

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school required.
• Active Bar Admission in New York , in good standing.
• 5-10 years of substantive experience in title insurance underwriting or 5-10 years comparable commercial real estate experience
• General understanding of the process of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies .
• Ability to interpret and apply underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits
• Solid understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of NH real estate transactions, title and settlement processes.
• Must be familiar with applicable real estate law , including federal and state regulations.
• Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and externally, with clients and others.
• Exceptional organizational skills , with the ability to manage significant transaction volume, ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner.
• Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Effective communicator with strong negotiation skills, who can deliver guidance with clarity, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
• Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions.
• Collaborative mindset with ability to act decisively when needed.
• Creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving complex title challenges.
• Ability to work hybrid 3 days a week in office in Tarrytown.
• Conduct continuing legal education with clients.
• Willingness to travel occasionally with sales agents in New York market area.

What You’ll Do

• Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers, related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies .
• Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance.
• Provide guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
• Issue underwriting standards and guideline s in accordance with established company processes.
• Prepare and present educational content (in-person and/or remote) for the benefit of company personnel, agents and/or customers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $200,000– $275,000+ This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, qualifications, and geographic location.
