About KEEN

Mission : To empower youth with disabilities by providing free, non-competitive one-to-one programs of exercise, fitness, and fun, led by volunteer coaches.

Vision : Fostering confidence, self-esteem, and inclusion for youth with disabilities; strengthening the community through volunteer education; and providing families with respite and a supportive network.

Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) is the strategic leader and primary management engine of KEEN New York. We are seeking a seasoned development leader with a proven track record of building ambitious fundraising strategies and leading organizations through periods of growth and increased complexity. The ideal candidate is an independent strategic thinker who executes—working in partnership with our Board of Directors to steward major institutional relationships and scale programmatic impact.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Fundraising & Board Collaboration

  • Growth Strategy: Develop and oversee a multi-year fundraising strategy to grow donor bases, corporate support, grants, special events, and online giving programs.
  • Community Engagement: Maintain and foster relationships with community partners, existing corporate donors, and partner volunteer organizations.
  • Board Partnership & Activation: Work closely with board members to grow and leverage the capacity of the Board of Directors and Associate Board in service of the organization, while equipping members with strategies to effectively cultivate their networks and transform relationships into broader donor pipelines.
  • Institutional Stewardship: Lead the cultivation and management of major institutional donor relationships to secure long-term sustainability.

Leadership & Organizational Management

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Provide strong leadership across all key internal and external stakeholders, creating an environment of respect, creativity, and fulfillment.
  • Program & Staff Oversight: Supervise Program Coordinator(s) to ensure the quality of existing programs and the successful execution of expansion opportunities.
  • Communications: Develop and implement public relations and communication strategies to increase community awareness and support program goals.
  • Volunteer Ecosystem: Create and maintain best practices to attract, train, and recognize volunteers and coaches.

Operational Execution

  • Program Presence: Act as a visible leader by providing regular attendance and oversight at weekend KEEN sessions throughout the year.
  • Financial & Administrative: Manage the annual budget and organizational reporting in coordination with the Board of Directors.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of fundraising experience in the non-profit 501(c)(3) sector.
  • Education: 4-year Bachelor’s Degree (Social Services, Education, or a related field preferred but not required).
  • Collaborative Style: Demonstrated ability to work in tandem with a Board of Directors to achieve philanthropic goals.
  • Execution Focus: A "player-coach" mentality—able to design high-level strategy and directly manage the operations required to achieve it.
  • Local Insight: Established and active social and personal networks in the greater New York City Area.
  • Operational Skills: Ability to work independently and multi-task while prioritizing and accomplishing goals in an autonomous environment; strong organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Excellent computer skills, including social media (Instagram), Constant Contact, and basic HTML.
  • Preferred: Experience working with children with disabilities; Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Position Logistics

  • Work Environment: Home-based/remote, requiring regular attendance at weekend KEEN sessions.
