Social Team

The Social team is building features to make social interactions a fundamental part of the core Duolingo experience. As an engineer on this team, you will develop social features, own projects from end-to-end, iterate quickly based on experiments, and be a part of big bets that will help drive new rewards and deeper connections. We're looking for engineers who are passionate about building fun, high-quality social experiences.

Math Teaching Team

The Math Teaching team builds engaging learning experiences that help learners make sense of math. We bring together strong pedagogy, thoughtful design, engineering, and best-in-class AI to create and scale content that makes math approachable for everyone. As an engineer, you'll shape how learners discover new ideas by building new exercise types, imagining new concept-teaching moments, and experimenting quickly to make math intuitive, fun, and effective at scale.

Listening And Speaking Team

As an engineer on the Listening and Speaking team, you will build long-form learning features that empower learners to achieve proficiency in listening and speaking, skills that are critical for us to teach effectively. We're looking for motivated engineers who are excited to build new features and passionate about providing the best possible education for our users!

AI Platform Team

The AI Platform Team builds the critical infrastructure and tooling that underpins our AI efforts at Duolingo. As an engineer on the team, you’ll develop systems that automate AI workflows, benchmark new models, and ensure our AI features stay online. We’re looking for engineers who enjoy building scalable and reliable systems who want to work in the fast-paced world of AI!

You will...

• Collaborate on software projects with product design and backend aspects
• Develop, release, and maintain backend services and/or infrastructure
• Lead individual project priorities, milestones, and ensure we're always shipping

You have...

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
• Strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design
• Experience programming in Java, Python, or Kotlin
• Solid understanding of one or more database technologies

Exceptional candidates will have...

• Industry experience building high-traffic APIs using public cloud providers

We post a multi-level salary range for all of our roles.

This is not inclusive of the rest of our awesome portfolio that includes equity compensation and world-class benefits. Our salary ranges are the same for all US locations. Your recruiter can share more details about the range for a specific level during the hiring process. The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to, skills, experience, education, and internal equity.

Salary Range

$177,700—$240,400 USD
