Position Summary

The Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher (Grades 5-8) is responsible for teaching reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literature. The teacher helps students develop critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills while fostering a love of reading and effective writing.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement ELA lessons aligned with state and district standards for grades 5-8.

• Teach reading comprehension, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and literature analysis.

• Encourage students to think critically, express ideas clearly, and engage in meaningful discussions.

• Assess student learning through quizzes, essays, projects, presentations, and class participation.

• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with special needs and English language learners.

• Promote literacy through reading programs, literature circles, and writing workshops.

• Maintain a structured, supportive, and engaging classroom environment.

• Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to students and parents/guardians.

• Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development and interdisciplinary learning.

• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.

• Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, Literacy, or a related field.

• Valid teaching certification/licensure appropriate for grades 5-8 (as required by the state or school).

• Knowledge of middle school ELA curriculum and instructional best practices.

• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to make reading and writing engaging and meaningful for students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience teaching upper elementary or middle school ELA.

• Familiarity with digital tools and technology to enhance reading and writing instruction.

• Experience implementing differentiated instruction and supporting diverse learners.

• Ability to foster a love of literacy and encourage student creativity and expression.
