Job Description



Position Summary


The Post-Baccalaureate Museum Learning and Engagement Fellow will provide administrative and program support to the Loeb's Learning and Community Engagement team. This role is central to gallery teaching at the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, focusing on developing curricular resources and programs that use the museum's collection to enhance learning for various disciplines and age groups. The Post-Baccalaureate Museum Learning and Engagement Fellow provides day-to-day supervision, training, and mentorship for the Loeb Gallery Guide team, which is composed of Vassar College students from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.


This is a two-year position with possible extension for an additional year, reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Learning and Community Engagement, with a target start date no later than July 2026.



Responsibilities

  • Design and implement training for the Loeb Gallery Guide team to support developing a toolkit of gallery teaching strategies for diverse audiences and a strong base of knowledge about the Loeb's collections and special exhibitions.

  • Lead and support gallery tours and other educational programming in the galleries.

  • Supervise and mentor the Loeb Gallery Guide team.

  • Manage the tour and program calendar; Respond to related inquiries.

  • Develop resources and programming that connect the Loeb's exhibitions and collections to PreK-12 curriculum and learning standards.

  • Support outreach to schools and community organizations, including possible off-site programs.

  • Assist the Learning and Community Engagement team with programs and development of interpretive materials, as well as other project-related administrative tasks.
    Other tasks as needed to support the work of the Learning and Community Engagement department.



Required knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Art History, Art, Education, another discipline in the humanities or a related field; applications welcome from those graduating any time through June 2026

  • One year of teaching experience in an art museum or gallery setting.

  • Knowledge of current practices and methodologies for teaching and learning in museums.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (or equivalent Google or Mac platforms)

  • Proactive and collaborative problem-solver who demonstrates sound judgment, discretion, and diplomacy in all interactions.

  • Enthusiastic about engaging with a wide array of topics outside personal areas of expertise.

  • Commitment to making art and museums accessible and welcoming to all.

  • Highly organized with excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.

  • Able to function in a fast-paced environment within a team and comfortable with handling several projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to interact socially with others and effectively with a diverse community.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Experience with TMS (The Museum System), Canva, and/or Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Supervisory experience.

Compensation : $25.00 per hour
