CSHL Simons Fellow in NEUROSCIENCE
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is seeking to fill a Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Fellow position in the area of NEUROSCIENCE (experimental and/or computational). Of particular interest to this search are candidates with expertise ranging from NeuroAI, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to brain-body interactions, including cancer neuro and neurodegenerative disorders, and systems and developmental neuroscience. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of research achievement and an innovative research program. They will join a highly interactive and collaborative neuroscience group working on neural circuits, neural development, neurogenetics, theoretical and computational neuroscience, artificial intelligence, synaptic function, brain disorders, rodent cognition, perception, and social behavior.
The CSHL Fellows Program fosters research independence for recent Ph.D. graduates. Early career scientists pursue high-risk/high-return research in biology. CSHL Fellows Program aims to bring different perspectives, identities, and backgrounds, including those from groups who are underrepresented in the sciences. You can read more about the CSHL Fellows program here .
Fellow appointments are for three years, with the possibility of an extension of one to two years. Fellows direct their own research program with their own laboratory space, administrative support, and access to all of the resources of the Laboratory, and they can hire a technician. Fellows have access to CSHL’s community-building and professional development activities, which include lecture series, training workshops and extramural events. A committee of CSHL faculty selects the Fellows and regularly meets with them to provide mentorship and assistance throughout the duration of the Program. Since its inception in 1986, the CSHL Fellows Program has welcomed 21 scientists and seen some remarkable scientific accomplishments from their laboratories, shaping many research areas in biology.
Goals of the CSHL Fellows Program:
- To support the scientific and personal growth of talented early career scientists by providing generous financial and mentoring support. To provide scientific flexibility that allows Fellows to leverage their prior research experiences to explore new frontiers. Successful Fellows will often collaborate with other CSHL faculty to expand their experimental and computational toolbox in pursuit of their own scientific vision To foster community around research challenges. CSHL is a highly collaborative and collegial environment, and Fellows are expected to inspire scientific trainees and faculty through their non-conventional career path.
The CSHL Simons Fellow is jointly supported by the Simons Foundation and CSHL. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a world-renowned research and educational institution with programs in cancer, neuroscience, plant biology, genomics, and quantitative biology. Located on the North Shore of Long Island 30 miles from New York City, the Laboratory has a rich and successful research environment rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration as well as an innovative graduate school that attracts talented students each year. CSHL thrives by assembling a rich mix of people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, races and genders, who are provided the resources and creative freedom to develop new ideas, solve problems, and advance knowledge, following best practices in mentorship. Graduate student advisors are encouraged to make nominations during the student’s final year of graduate studies, or graduate students may apply directly. Nominations can also be made after a student earns their Ph.D., but not after 2 years of earning their degree. M.D./Ph.D. students are also encouraged to apply as an alternative to clinical training.
