Assistant Pit Master

Bark Barbecue is opening a second 8,700 sq. ft. flagship destination in the heart of North Brooklyn (East Williamsburg/Bushwick) and is seeking hospitality professionals to join our opening team.

This is an opportunity to be part of an industry-leading buildout from the ground up, helping shape the systems, culture, and standards of a high-volume restaurant focused on exceptional barbecue, hospitality, and craftsmanship.

Position: Assistant to the Pitmaster

Assistant to the Pitmaster is a hands-on production role focused on supporting Bark's barbecue program and daily smoker operations. Working directly alongside the Pitmaster, this position helps ensure meats are prepared, cooked, and handled according to Bark's standards for quality, consistency, and food safety.

Responsibilities include meat preparation and trimming, seasoning and rub application, smoker loading and unloading, monitoring product quality throughout the cooking process, handling and resting cooked meats, maintaining production schedules, organizing inventory, and supporting daily smoker room operations. This role also assists with cleaning, organization, and maintaining a safe and efficient production environment.

This is a high-opportunity position for someone interested in learning the craft of barbecue from the ground up. While prior barbecue experience is not required, candidates should have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in food, meat cookery, and craftsmanship.

Ideal Candidates

• Previous experience as a prep cook, line cook, chef, meat prep, butcher, or kitchen professional is preferred but not required
• Interest in barbecue, meat cookery, smoker operations, and food production
• Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding work
• Organized, detail-oriented, and committed to consistency
• Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
• Eager to learn and grow within a professional barbecue program
