The Department of Chemistry is currently housed in the School of Natural Science and Social Science (NSS). The Department of Chemistry will focus on sectors related to basic science of climate resilience and will serve majors in STEM, particularly the interdisciplinary program in Anthropology/Biology/Chemistry, Biological Science, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences. The number of majors in this category is over 800.
The Lehman College campus is located in the Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. Climate, health, and technology are industries with the highest job growth potential from 2020-2030 (BLS: Employment Projections 2020). These sectors are aligned with our current academic tracks. The combination of these disciplines provides a "bench to bedside approach" where students in Healthcare, STEM, and Computer Science majors are exposed to theory and laboratory concepts that prepare them for an internship to gain experience in a real-world work environment, which will lead to good paying jobs.
