Analytics Delivery Lead (Hybrid Remote)

Job Description

A global law firm with nearly 1,400 lawyers and more than 3,000 employees across 19 offices in the United States, Europe, and Asia is looking to build out a data lake to encompass both internal and external data. The role is a long-term contract with potential to hire down the line, so the candidate must be commutable to one of their office locations: Boston MA, NYC, Palo Alto CA, Chicago IL, Denver CO, LA, Miami FL, Reston VA, San Diego CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Seattle WA, or Washington DC. The role will require 4-8 days onsite per month. The Client is transforming how they use data to empower our attorneys, clients, and business teams. As they build their Northstar Lakehouse and shift toward AI-assisted analytics, they need a leader who can define how information is consumed not just how reports are built.

The Analytics Platform Delivery Lead will design and deliver a modern analytics experience that leverages Databricks, Genie, and Power BI as complementary insight surfaces, with Tableau governed where necessary. This individual will own semantic governance, consumption patterns, and the user experience strategy for analytics at the Client, ensuring our people receive answers they trust, insights that matter, and experiences that feel personalized, role-aware, and future-ready.

This is not a traditional BI role. It blends platform thinking with experience design, grounded in Lakehouse modeling, semantic layers, AI-assistive capabilities, and how people naturally interact with insights.

Key Responsibilities

1) Analytics Experience & Consumption Strategy

Define the vision for how Cooley consumes governed data across Power BI, Databricks Apps, Tableau (limited), and Genie.

Establish clear guidance on when to use Genie for exploration, Power BI for decision-ready insights, and Databricks Apps for bespoke workflows (e.g., the FinIQ replacement).

Promote narrative-first, role-aware, pre-filtered dashboards that reduce reliance on tabular exports.

2) Semantic Governance & Metric Consistency

Own and enforce the semantic governance framework: grain, naming standards, conformed dimensions, RLS patterns, and metric catalog.

Ensure business logic lives in the correct layer (Gold ? semantic ? thin reports) and is never duplicated across tools.

Chair the Analytics Review Board to certify dashboards, approve metrics, and deprecate redundancies.

3) Multi-Tool BI Governance (Power BI + Tableau)

Power BI (primary surface): Drive workspace lifecycle, dataset consolidation, Dev/Test/Prod promotion, refresh architecture, and thin-report standards.

Tableau (governed footprint only): Implement a governance wrapper, certified sources, project/workbook standards, naming conventions, and content lifecycle ensuring Tableau points to the same certified semantics and does not create a parallel BI ecosystem.

4) Databricks App Ownership (including FinIQ Replacement)

Own the product vision and delivery for Databricks Apps used as interactive, secure applications over the Lakehouse (e.g., the FinIQ replacement).

Define when and how to embed Genie (NLQ/AI) capabilities to augment user workflows via the Genie API.

Ensure Unity Catalog entitlements, performance SLAs, telemetry, and auditability for all apps.

5) Platform Architecture & Connectivity

Partner with Enterprise Solution Architects and Infrastructure to operate Power BI as the insight surface without adopting Microsoft Fabric in full.

Collaborate with Infra & Security to secure connectivity patterns into AWS Databricks and AWS-hosted sources using supported Microsoft on-premises data gateway on EC2, with HA and documented SLOs.

Ensure platform reliability, usage telemetry, and performance SLAs.

6) Legacy Power BI Rationalization & Non-Lake Governance

Inventory all BI assets and publish a quarterly Retain / Replace / Retire plan.

Shut down low-value and export-first dashboards; replace only when a role-aware semantic-backed insight is warranted.

Establish a formal exception path for non-Lake builds, requiring data contracts, lineage, RLS parity, and a documented migration plan into the Lake.

7) Leadership & Cross-Functional Enablement

Lead the Analytics Delivery vertical responsible for Gold mart modeling, semantic-layer implementation, and thin dashboard development.

Partner closely with the Silver Lead Architect (reporting directly to the Director of Data) to align Vault (Silver) and Gold/semantic modeling.

Provide templates, training, and starter kits for Analytics Engineers, BI Developers, and business-facing analysts.

Initial Focus (First 6-9 Months: Pre-Gold)

Deliver a complete inventory and map of the analytics estate including datasets, usage, and duplication patterns.

Publish a rationalization plan identifying which assets move to the new Lakehouse semantic layer, which are replaced, and which are retired.

Introduce thin-report standards and semantic naming conventions; tag any non-Lake builds as Temporary / Non-Certified with migration dates.

Deliver a Databricks App MVP for the FinIQ replacement using Unity Catalog entitlements and Databricks SQL.

Document our non-Fabric posture and future triggers to reconsider Fabric adoption.

Success Measures (12 Months)

Estate Simplification: =35% reduction in unique Power BI datasets and =25% of legacy dashboards retired or consolidated.

Consistency Across Tools: 100% parity for top certified metrics between Power BI's semantic model and Genie natural-language answers.

Behavior Change: =40% reduction in Excel export events on targeted domains; increased narrative and role-aware dashboard usage.

Databricks App Delivery: Next Phase of FinIQ replacement app live with Unity Catalog-governed access and usage telemetry.

RLS & Security Alignment: Tableau, Power BI, and Databricks Apps consistently enforcing RLS/CLS via governed semantics.

Organization Context

-Silver Lead Architect reports directly to the Director of Data and owns Vault/Silver standards and cross-domain architecture.

• Analytics Platform Delivery Lead (this role) leads Analytics Delivery, including Gold Data Modelers, Analytics Engineers, BI Developers, UI/UX and Client Intelligence.

• Data Science operates as a separate vertical and partners via shared semantics and governed consumption patterns.

Compensation:

$78/hr to $83/hr.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, skills, experience, and education.

Skills and Requirements

• 10+ years spanning analytics engineering, BI architecture, analytics product delivery, or platform strategy roles.

• Expertise in semantic modeling, thin-report design, and multi-surface analytics delivery.

• Deep experience with Power BI semantic models/RLS and working knowledge of Lakehouse architectures (Databricks, Unity Catalog).

• Proven history modernizing BI environments from report-centric to semantic- and product-centric delivery.

• Strong understanding of AI-assisted analytics (Genie, Copilot) and their dependency on well-structured semantic models.

• willingness to move into a hybrid technical and people-leadership role - Experience in legal/professional services or other high-trust environments.

• Familiarity with Data Vault ? Gold mart patterns (Vault/Silver owned by Silver Lead Architect).

• Experience with React, Streamlit, Dash, or similar frameworks for internal data apps.

• Understanding of agentic/AI UX patterns for enterprise analytics.
