Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-driven, and solutions-oriented Staff Accountant to support the financial accuracy, operational integrity, and scalable growth of Doing Things. As a core member of the Finance team, the Staff Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the company’s books are clean, reconciled, and compliant, supporting multiple business lines including editorial content, branded partnerships, creator businesses, e-commerce, wholesale, and licensing.

This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, enjoys building processes, and brings both rigor and curiosity to accounting operations. You will partner cross-functionally with Creative, Commerce, Data, Brand Partnerships, Operations, and external vendors to support clean month-end close, AP/AR workflows, and financial reporting that fuels strategic decision making.

This is a hands-on accounting role with significant exposure across the entire business — ideal for someone who loves accuracy, ownership, and improving systems.

Responsibilities:

Month-End & Year-End Close
  • Play a key role in the completion of month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as needed
  • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules
  • Ensure all financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with US GAAP

Accounts Payable Management

  • Own the AP workflow, including timely vendor communication and bill processing
  • Set up new vendors in Bill.com and maintain accurate records
  • Obtain and track internal approvals for all incoming invoices
  • Oversee corporate credit card transactions and employee reimbursements within our expense management platform, verifying policy compliance and proper expense categorization

Accounts Receivable & Billing

  • Assist with AR tasks including creating invoices in QuickBooks Online
  • Send invoices to clients and maintain follow-up cadence for outstanding payments
  • Track payment status and escalate discrepancies or delays when needed

Financial Reporting & Audit Support

  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with generating financial statements and ad-hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules, pulling documentation, and answering auditor inquiries

Compliance & Vendor Management

  • Facilitate the annual issuance and distribution of 1099s to independent contractors
  • Maintain proper vendor records and ensure required tax documentation (W-9s, etc.) is up to date

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Creative, Commerce, Data, and Brand Partnerships to ensure financial accuracy across initiatives
  • Provide excellent internal communication to ensure clarity and accountability across departments

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of accounting or finance experience; media, entertainment, or consumer products preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes
  • Hands-on experience with AP, AR, journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks, Bill.com) and Excel/Google Sheets
  • Experience with inventory accounting or COGS is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and ability to build strong cross-functional relationships
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a desire to improve processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  • Curiosity for how creative, commerce, and media businesses operate
  • Passion for Doing Things’ content and culture is a plus
