Lead Bartender

Hana Makgeolli (hanamakgeolli.com; @hanamakgeolli) is a Korean rice wine brewery based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. We are the first domestic producer of artisanal Korean rice wines in the US. Our wines showcase the breadth of the Korean sool category and are made with organic rice using natural and traditional Korean brewing methodologies. Our Tasting Room pairs the cuvees we brew here with a small menu of thoughtful, authentic anju.

ROLE

The Lead Bartender oversees the Tasting Room and the front of house team, owning day-to-day service, reservations, inventory, ordering, budgets, and the standard of hospitality. The role leads beverage service, staff training, and the smooth running of the Tasting Room.

- Part-Time

- Approximately 30-35 hours a week

- Required to work at the brewery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Work with management to maintain the Tasting Room and its day-to-day operations.

- Manage Tasting Room project plan, document tasting room performance and lead pre-shift meetings.

- Create weekly report documenting: expenses, guest feedback, preferences, trends, issues

- Oversee front of house staff, including scheduling training, development of SOPs and feedback.

- Manage our reservation system (Resy) and all reservation requests (@reservation email)

- Manage inventory and ordering for all Tasting Room supplies, including kitchen and bar.

-Partner with the Design & Marketing Manager and kitchen teams on menu execution and feasibility. Beverage menu strategy is owned by the Design & Marketing Manager.

- Prep and maintain pars for syrups, teas, juices, and related bar ingredients

- Support the Design & Marketing Manager on event execution including scheduling of kitchen and/or bar for the event (varies by event), communication with Kitchen team on food pars and ordering needs

- Assemble drinks and serve food for Tasting Room guests per Hana Makgeolli standards of quality.

- Complete daily and weekly cleaning check lists/logs and generally maintain cleanliness of the Tasting Room and storage space up to DOH / business standards

- Communicate with kitchen, production, and management teams to maintain cohesive service and building operations.

- Oversee resolution of any guest issue or complaint in the room and escalate to management as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Minimum 2 years of lead bartender, assistant GM, or similar leadership experience.

- Strong knowledge of fermented beverages, distillates, and cocktails, with a passion for hospitality.

- Strives for continuous improvement and is eager to learn and grow.

- Exceptional verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to train and develop staff.

- Professional demeanor when dealing with guests, managers, and fellow employees.

- Availability Wednesday through Sunday in accordance with our opening hours.

- Able to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing for 5-8 hours and lifting heavy objects.

- Ability to demonstrate quick thinking and adaptability in a constantly changing environment.

- Exceptional work ethic and strong attention to detail.

- Team-oriented, responsive, and comfortable collaborating in a positive manner.

- Passion for breweries, wineries, or fermentation of all kinds is a plus.

- Food Safety, TIPS, and/or ServSafe Certified (or willing to get certified).

- 21 years old or over.
