Within the New York City Police Department, the Fiscal Control Section plays a vital role in supporting departmental operations by managing payments, overseeing revenue receipts, handling banking activities, and reviewing special financial expenses across multiple commands.
The department is currently seeking an Accountant II to join its Fiscal Control Section. Candidates who already hold permanent civil service status in the title of “Accountant” are strongly encouraged to apply. This position supports financial operations that directly contribute to the department’s mission of maintaining safety, order, and trust within the community.
In this role, the selected candidate will be responsible for reviewing vendor invoices and supporting documentation to ensure accurate and timely processing of payments. Duties include tracking vendor payments, resolving outstanding issues, and maintaining proper payment records. The position also involves monitoring revenue collection activities to ensure funds are properly recorded, accounted for, and reported in accordance with established procedures.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with special and ad hoc projects assigned by the Fiscal Control team, supporting ongoing financial initiatives, and contributing to process improvements when needed. The role requires attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret financial data accurately.
The work location for this position is 375 Pearl Street, New York, NY 10038, with standard working hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Once the employee becomes familiar with all assigned duties, they may be eligible for one remote workday per week, subject to departmental approval.
To qualify, candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with at least 24 semester credits in accounting, including coursework in advanced accounting and auditing, or hold a valid New York State CPA license. Placement at Assignment Level II additionally requires at least one year of experience as an Accountant Assignment Level I or a minimum of two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
Preferred candidates will demonstrate strong problem-solving and communication skills, the ability to review and analyze financial data, and proficiency in financial systems such as FMS and PASSPort, along with Microsoft Excel, Word, and QuickBooks. This position is also open to qualified individuals with disabilities eligible under the 55-a Program.
