Job Title: Phlebotomist IIJob Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations within the laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.

• Decontaminate and update patient information as required.

• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

• Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection processes.

• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

• Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.

• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.

• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.

• Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are correct against the script.

• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature.

• Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens for transport.

• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

• Attend annual department trainings.

• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to provide information.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

• Minimum of 6 months' experience in performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

• High School Diploma or GED.

• 2-4 years of experience in the field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Strong customer service skills.

• Ability to troubleshoot and provide training.

• Experience with specimen collection and handling.

Work Environment

The work environment is a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting where adherence to safety and procedural protocols is essential. Employees are expected to wear appropriate laboratory attire.

This is a Contract position based out of Ilion, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
