Duties Description

We are looking for a talented and experienced Software Developer to join our Engineering Systems app development team. The ideal candidate will have experience in requirements gathering as well as developing & maintaining complex software systems. The incumbent will play a crucial role in the development, testing and maintenance of software solutions in support of various business needs for the New York State Thruway's Engineering Department.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Ability to write clean, scalable, and maintainable code.
  • Experience as web application developer
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies leveraging HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with MVC development pattern
  • Knowledge of relational or NoSQL database systems such as Oracle or MongoDB respectively
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Experience with .NET
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS FOR CURRENT STATE EMPLOYEES:


Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service allocated to a Grade 16 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

  • NY HELPS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science; OR a bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology; OR 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology; OR two years of professional experience in information technology.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.

At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Additional Pay Information

The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:

Base Pay Range from Hiring Rate $64,427 up to Job Rate $91,409.

Recruitment & Retention Pay: $7,000.
