Senior / Staff Frontend Engineer - AI-Native Banking Platform

The Opportunity I'm working with a global financial technology leader on an exciting, newly-formed venture: an AI-native banking platform being built for Tier-1 financial institutions, combining the agility of a startup with the scale and backing of an established enterprise.
This isn't a dashboard. It's the control surface for real money, real regulation, and real consequences — and it's where AI agents and human operators work side by side, with every action reviewed, traced, and approved in real time.

My client is assembling a small, senior team with startup-level autonomy. If you want your frontend code to be the thing that bank operations, compliance, and finance teams trust every single day, this is the role.

What You'll Be Working On The Command Center - the nerve centre of the platform. Account management, ledger operations, compliance rule configuration, product setup — high-stakes, high-density interfaces where every click matters and every action needs to be fast, clear, and correct.

The Agent Experience - the embedded AI layer, where users collaborate with autonomous agents through streaming chat. You'll build plan-approval workflows where AI proposes multi-step actions and humans review each one, tool-call and agent-trace visualizations, context management for long-running conversations, and routing across multiple model providers.

The Design System - the component library and interaction patterns that shape the entire platform. This comes with real product authority over the primitives, not a back-office component factory remit.

Quality at Speed - a mature testing foundation (unit, integration, end-to-end, plus AI evals) that lets the team move fast because it's solid, not despite the lack of one.
What You Bring

• Strong production experience with TypeScript and React - real shipped products at scale, not side projects
• Deep Next.js expertise, including App Router, Server Components, and server actions
• Experience designing or extending a component system with real composition patterns
• A track record building complex, stateful UIs - multi-step workflows, real-time streaming data, high-density interfaces that stay fast and legible under load
• Solid testing practice across unit, integration, and E2E (Vitest, Jest, Playwright, or Cypress)
• Comfort working across the stack when a feature calls for it — server logic, database queries, API integrations
• An ownership mindset — you don't just implement; you make the product and UX calls

Bonus points if you have: experience building AI-powered product surfaces (streaming LLM UIs, tool-calling interfaces, agent workflows); fintech or regulated-industry experience where audit trails and approval chains matter; or experience setting technical standards and mentoring on a small team.
