About Usdan

Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofitfounded in 1968 that provides arts education in a camp setting, where fun, creativity, and learning intermingle freely in the beautiful outdoors.

Our goal is to instill in our community a desire and drive to contribute creatively to the world now and for the rest of their lives.

Each summer, teachersand artists — actors, directors, playwrights, painters, sculptors, musicians, composers, dancers, poets, and novelists — come together to teach and collaborate with our campers, grades K–12.Set on 140 acresof natural beauty in Wheatley Heights, Long Island, NY, Usdan is a safe, welcoming place within which campers have the freedom to build new friendships, explore nature, gain personal independence, and have fun, while developing new skills and techniques in their chosen artforms.

Position summary

The Greeteris responsible forwelcoming andassistingvisitors, students, and families as they enter the campus.Key duties include working outdoors for extended periods of timewhilemaintaininga friendly demeanorand communicating with the front office staff.Additionally,the greeteris responsible forparentpickupanddrop-off.

Job responsibilities

• Taking student attendance atdrop-offand pick-up.

• Must have a friendly demeanor.

• Alerting the parent support staffofmid-day drop-off and pick-up of students andstudent belongings.

• Ensure that visiting parents are headed toassigned event locations.

• Ensurestudents are safely connected with their authorized family members.

• Reportany issues to the Associate Director of Camp Administration.

• Attend department and staff meetings andtrainingsasrequired.

• Be able to work individually and as a part of a team.

• Use unstructured time constructively.

• Handle confidential information with sensitivity and in a trustworthy manner.

• Attend department and staff meetings and trainingsas required.

• Always have student safety as a top priority.

• Help tocreate a joyful, funand engaging atmosphere for all students and staff at Usdan.

Qualifications

• Be 18 years of age as of June 29, 2026

• Friendly & professional disposition.

• Ability to work all day outdoors.

• Experience working with children.

• CPR Training is not requiredbut a plus.

• Have reliable transportation to Usdan’s campus.

• Must complete New York State requiredtrainings, including but not limited to a Sexual Harassment Prevention training and a Child Abuse and Neglect/Maltreatment Identification. Links to required trainingswill be provided after hiring.

2026 Summer season dates and times

Monday – Friday, June 29– August 21, 2026, 9:15 A.M.– 3:15 P.M., closed July 6.

Pre-season commitments include:

• New Staff Orientation: Saturday, May 16, 11:00.A.M. – 2:00.P.M.

• Staff Orientation: Saturday, May 30, 9:30 A.M.– 4:30 P.M.

• FamilyOrientation: Thursday, June 18, 4:00 P.M.– 7:30 P.M.

Compensation and benefits

• $17per hourat least 30 hours per week.

• Workshops in subjects like yoga, ceramics, and archery with other faculty and staff, if offered.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Usdan is a 140-acre campus with facilities spread throughout – distances vary and are along uneven surfaces, up and down hills. Some facilities are elevated and require one to two stairs to enter.

Some staff walk an average of two miles per day. Other physical demands include the ability to work in a hot, humid environment; the ability to speak clearly and understand the speech of another person; and the ability to prioritize sounds and focus on one sound among many.
